Unimpressed

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 24, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Beautiful piece of property, solid tee pads, good baskets with some raised to provide added challenge. Your average player will love this courses, particularly given its heavy bias toward RHBH throws. Nice amenities in the park.

Cons:

I strongly agree with the review stratedge left. What a beautiful piece of property, but what a disappointment as far as design goes. As a lefty I am used to playing RHBH prevalent courses but there was no effort to put in anything creative here. Eight pure RHBH short hyzer holes, 3 straight up LHBH hyzer holes and 7 other straight open lines. I came here once for a tournament, but will not be making the trip here again for this course. Rose Hill is a much better course in both design and challenge.

Other Thoughts:

Basic course design suggests designer should consider a variety of lines and offer players interesting choices in risk and reward. This course lacks both balance and choice. I went with the 2.5 rating given the label (decent/typical), otherwise I would have given it a 3 or 4 just on the beauty of the property.

Very pretty, but the design is wanting 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 17, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

The location of this course is extremely nice. Lush grass on gently undulating terrain, and big low hanging trees for large obstacles to throw around. The tee pads are great, the baskets are great, and even without signs it's fairly trivial to navigate off the map. Lost discs would rarely be an issue, the few water hazards are fair. Kid friendly.

While I am going to complain about the overall course design below, there are a few good holes in the back 9 that were interesting.

Cons:

Any disc golf club out there thinking about paying McCabe to fly out to design your course, one play of this and you will save yourself some money. Not horrible course design, but just really underwhelming and forgettable. Obvious and straight forward holes, about half of which had just nothing in the way. Lots of pretty trees off to the side, but the tee pad to basket was just one big wide open fairway.

It's a nice course, but the lack of challenge keeps it from being a destination course. I'm still rating it quite high because it's just so pretty.

Other Thoughts:

I am hopeful the KDGC will decide to add second (third?), more challenging basket placements to make this more of the tournament level course it could be. Maybe clearing some pockets deeper into the rough to make attacking the pin about more than just reaching it. Under the trees, rather than beside them. Or if the city is willing, add some pine trees right in the middle of the fairways to make the thrower think.

Good challenge 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 11, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good cement tee pads. Baskets are pretty good. Multiple basket placements can make the course quite if different if you are lucky to be there when they have been changed. Great setting on the island and fits in perfect with the sports complex its on. Nice to see the city out helping maintain it

Cons:

Still needs the signage. Won't be a big challenge for the higher rated player but it's perfect for your average player (that's me)

Other Thoughts:

Great work done by the club to get this piece of property.
