Pros:

Every year, volunteers put in hundreds of hours to build this course on the ski slopes of Mount Lemmon that it is playable for just one weekend a year (the annual Lemmon Drop tournament). The amount of work put in is impressive - they build tee pads, put in steps, lug baskets up the mountain, etc., all for a few days of golf. The end result is the best ski slope course I've played.

Like many ski courses, the elevation change is extreme, and there are lots of extreme shots (e.g. 600 foot holes that can be overthrown with a putter). Mount Lemmon gets quite a bit of rain and snow, so the environment is alpine forest, which is both beautiful and offers lots of hole design opportunities. Unlike most ski courses, this course is obviously actually designed by disc golfers. The tees offer different looks and shapes, where you have to go left or right, handle low clearance, or shape your shots around obstacles and down lots of different fairways. The baskets are often in precipitous locations or well protect by trees. Controlling your shots so you land in the right locations is essentially. The holes range from short birdie opportunities to long par fours.

Cons:

The biggest negatives stem from this being a temporary course. First, it's only playable one weekend a year. And while the work that the construction crew puts in is impressive, the tees are just dirt, and many are short and already getting uneven by the end of a weekend (after being used by over 100 players).

Other Thoughts:

This is an extreme course, at high altitude and with lots of elevation change. It is much more taxing than a usual round. If you have the chance to play it, take care of yourself -- wear good boots, stay hydrated, get enough sleep. Many Lemmon Drop players swear by walking sticks. Make sure to bring supplies up the mountain with you -- the ski lodge here is pretty barebones, and the few stores and restaurants on the mountain have very limited hours.
