Reviewed: Played on:Feb 17, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Munden Point is in a well kept park. The 18 hole layout is flat and open, with water in play on a couple of holes. There are scattered, mature trees, with some heavier rough on the fringes.

Dual baskets and dual concrete tee pads on most holes allow players to tailor the layout a bit for their skill level. The tees are roomy and the long ones are dyed red. Innova DISCatchers doing the work on the receiving end. Tee signs at all tees, not providing super detailed illustrations, but getting the gist of it for the most part. Occasionally mandos are in play.

There are a few really fun holes. 3 has some heavy greenery, and bending all the way around it to the long pin is not easy to do. Hole 8 has to be the most notable as long par 4 with a landing strip approach. Water left, right and beyond the pin. With wind in play it can be very touchy. Holes 10 and 11 have fun fairways with plenty of trees to negotiate. The long pin on hole 15 is at the end of a corridor of trees, and if you aren't at the correct angle on approach it is tough to access.

Cons:

There are some open holes that are a bit bland.

The drive from Virginia Beach takes nearly 45 minutes, but the rural farm country is sort of pretty.

Other Thoughts:

Day two of the trip was another very nice day for mid February. The ride out to Munden Point gave us a chance to let the Bojangles biscuits settle before a good walk through the park.

This place was very well manicured. Some very pretty landscaping, playgrounds, restrooms and other picnic facilities.

A nice layout overall, with a standard park style disc golf course. Not exceedingly difficult, but has some longish drives and tough spots. Par is set at 56 for all tee/pin combos. I was plus 3 with 4 birdies. My drive on 8 did end up in the water on the left side. Signs are posted forbidding swimming, but I had to wade in about knee deep to get my Corvette back. It was sitting right there, couldn't let it go.

I was glad we made the drive to play here. It isn't the best track around, but I enjoyed it.

rural course off the beaten path 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 18, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Gorgeous parkland course on a peninsula between the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and the North Landing River. Mostly-open holes ring the property, and the slightly-wooded holes may have a tight start (nos. 1, 4, 16), middle (no. 6) or end (nos. 3, 12, 13, 15), but rarely tight all the way (barring no. 11). A good chunk of the time, you can truly air out shots. Though mostly flat, there is some mild elevation at the end holes 17 and 18 (up and then down), which is a very nice way to end the round. The course is not too busy, very well-maintained, and very beautiful. And the bay views are just awesome!

Cons:

The park is in a distinctly remote part of greater Virginia Beach. Longish (40-minute) drive from the oceanfront hotels. You are very much in the country here; indeed, you are at the North Carolina state line (only 3 miles away). Holes 8 and 9 will fool you. Their mini peninsula is not so wide as it looks, and even the mild wind on my play day was strong enough to send my no. 9 drive into the opposite side bay neck. Happily, there was a large but lightweight and long fallen branch I could use to help the floating disc (Dragon) to shore. The current was an even bigger help. You might want to carry your disc retriever with you - just in case! All of the holes are par 3s (both pads) to the short basket. Similar for long tee to the long baskets, all but long no. 8 and long no. 13 baskets (par 4s). Novices playing short-to-short don't get a break on these two holes.

Other Thoughts:

Other sports/activities in the park include soccer and football (I believe), baseball, playgrounds, picnic shelters, basketball - from what I saw. There is a restroom right at the disc-golf parking lot (you cannot stir that with a stick!) and other restrooms throughout the park. It is a very lovely course and worth the drive into the rural area to play. Combine it with Bayville or relaxing at Sandbridge Beach for a great day outdoors.

Best in VB 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Well maintained course along a beautiful waterfront in what is normally a quiet little corner of southeastern Virginia. Quite a few shots with decent distance so you can let it fly. The course plays very nicely in and out of the treeline for a little variety. Water holes are a great challenge and not too much risk of losing a disc but I've seen it happen for sure.

Cons:

A bit of a drive from what is considered the center of Virginia beach. If you're coming from Sandbridge or Pungo area, this is a really easy drive. Did you know you can also access this course by boat? How often can you say that?

Other Thoughts:

Ample parking, rarely crowded. Give it a go and make a day of it!

Pros:

Great open shots.
Good distance.
Two tee pads on every hole.
Very nice park.
Well marked and easy to navigate.
Not especially crowded.

Cons:

No elevation change.

Other Thoughts:

This course is my favorite in the area. It has big holes that let you air it out and it is in a nice location. Being in the middle of nowhere makes it a little difficult to get to but it also cuts down on the crowds compared to virginia beach. Go take a look!

Pros:

Open fairways with enough trees, azaleas, and water to keep it interesting. Hole number 8 is the signature hole with water on both sides. Each hole has two tees and two basket options. Red tees are challenging.

Other Thoughts:

Great course. Beautiful park.

Reviewed: Played on:May 24, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice tees and good signs. The map at the parking lot is comprehensive.

-A good balance of open and wooded shots. The holes are pretty fun and I would love to go back to play again. A few holes have water hazards, which can be a pro or con depending on your perspective. I will say that the water is easy to avoid as an amateur if you are very careful, so it's not one of those courses where you feel pressured to lose discs or skip holes.

-Beautiul course location and free to play!

Cons:

-A little bit out of the way. I'm in pungo often anyway, so it was no real hike for me. I still recommend it for people who are willing to take a half hour trip out of their way, though, as it's a good experience and a nice break from the home course.

-We got a little confused going from the front 9 to the back 9, just because we didn't look at the map beforehand. It would be nice if there were a little sign reminder about where to go. (Basically you just cross the park, passing the pavilions and parking lots, to get from 9 to 10.)

-No real elevation changes, but Va Beach is a flat place!

Other Thoughts:

My favorite holes were #2, where you throw over a hedgerow, and #8, where you throw out onto a peninsula. (It's not as dangerous as it sounds, so long as you make sure your shots are controlled, even if that means giving up some distance. The hole is not too long, so doing this for ams won't really give you too many extra strokes.)

Vacay Disc Golf! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 22, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-2 large differently colored concrete tee boxes and baskets for every hole.
-Accurate signs showing you where each basket is as well as distances for both tees.
-Nicely maintained facility with bathrooms on site
-Hole 8 was especially cool playing out to the edge of the water.
-Mostly open fairways with only a few obstacles/wooded holes.
-Wasn't crowded at all, though we did play early in the middle of the week. Dunno how it gets come weekends.

Cons:

-Some holes felt a little too open/similar. Just a chuck it as far as you can get feel.
-Not enough garbage cans on the course. But on the flip side garbage wasn't an issue that I could see.
-Maybe it was just the time of day we played (Before 9am) but the ground was pretty soggy on some of the holes, despite it not raining much at all.
-The grass was being mowed as we were playing, but they need a lawn bag for all their trimmings. My shoes looked like camouflage by the end of the game.
-Since it's a mostly open course, some of the "fairways" are real close to each other. 7, 8, and 9 in particular.

Other Thoughts:

This is one of the nicest parks I've seen. Super large and lots of stuff to do other than disc golf. Scenery wise it's awesome. Some signage directing you to the next holes would be helpful if you don't have a map. Hole 5 is across the street from 4 on the other side of the fence, and as other folks have said. It's a decent hike between 9 and 10. I prefer my courses to have a nice out and back design, but that's a personal preference I don;t think counts as a negative. On the whole, this was a great course. It's about 30 minutes outside of Virginia Beach in the middle of farmlands, but it's worth the trek for sure if you are down there.

Nice Course in the Middle of Nowhere 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 7, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-2 concrete tees and baskets per hole
-Good Signage
-Decent layout
-Beautiful multi-use park on Back Bay
-Very well maintained
-Light if any course traffic

Cons:

-Flat and fairly open
-Wind can be an issue
-Remote Location

Other Thoughts:

First the park is always very well maintained, which is impressive for a park of its size. The layout generally runs clockwise around the park. Most holes are fairly short, but there are a few the player could open up on. Scoring -10+ is very doable for the intermediate player. Risk/ reward level is fairly low making it a good course for newer players.

The park is kinda far from most amenities. The village of Pungo is close with a couple of gas stations. Course is flat, but that is typical for the area. Hole 8 could be considered the signature hole as it plays on a peninsula, but if you can throw straight it is not too much of a challenge. Wind can be an issue.

All in all it is a fun, but not overly difficult course in a very nice park. Definitely worth the trip out.

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 18, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is very clean and well kept. There are multiple concrete tee pads and baskets on every hole, allowing for repeated play without becoming too mundane. There are plenty of park facilities including bathrooms, courts, playgrounds, etc, so you can take the kids and they can still have fun. This park is situated right on the water, and it makes for a gorgeous round of disc golf. Some of the holes have a decent bit of distance to them. There are some sweet ace lines if you're feeling frisky. There are plenty of benches and trashcans, and some entertaining mandos to spice it up. There are also signs at each tee pad showing the layout and distances.

Cons:

While this course is beautiful, it's kind of boring. There are only a couple holes with any kind of challenge to them....the rest are pretty much just clear open holes with a cage at the end. Also, referring to half of the course as "wooded" is using the term very loosely. There are only about 5 holes that have trees that ACTUALLY get in the way. The course is out of the way and somewhat hard to find without a GPS.

Other Thoughts:

This is a great course for beginner to intermediate level players, as the holes are mostly set up such that you can see the cages from the tee, and there aren't really a whole lot of places for discs to hide. It's also a very beautiful park...I will definitely be playing there again if only for that reason. While the rounds are enjoyable, they're just not very challenging. Playing long tees/baskets helps. Also, when you finish on 9, head towards the boat ramp and just keep walking...you'll find 10 next to the closest shelter past the park office. Other than that, it's all pretty easy to follow. Try and avoid sunset rounds...there are a couple holes where you'll be blinded trying to shoot in to the sun. There IS the sweet water hole, so floaters would be nice to have in the bag, and this is a great place to work on your wind game, as the breeze coming off the water can be super strong.

Worth the drive 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 25, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Munden Point Disc Golf course sits on Back Bay in Southern Virginia Beach. The course plays clockwise on the perimeter of a rather large city park that offers a whole host of other attractions. Two concrete tee-pads to two baskets on every hole which offers lots of distance variety. Tee signs from every tee pad with clearly marked out distances to each basket. There are plenty of trashcans and benches throughout course with shelters available for tournaments. This course has the best practice area I have seen at a course with two specific practice baskets set in a 50 yard grid with trees and other obstacles to practice approaches as well as putting. No matter what tee/basket combination you play there is a fair balance for lefty's and righty's. Signature hole is number 8 that plays from 350-600ft onto a thin peninsula out into a beautiful bay with the basket placed in a tricky placement that sure is to cause many water OB's. Park is well kept and clean. Mando's come into play on a third of the holes here that provides safety and a more creative approach to those holes. Rarely crowded on the course.

Cons:

Number 1 issue for me is the wind. The bay breeze will always be factor based on the location of this course (especially holes 7-10). There are 3 holes here where the trees that have been planted to eventually add more challenge still have years to go to make those holes merely anything more than just field golf. The bathrooms located at hole 1 are frequently closed requiring you to traverse the park to the other location near hole 9. Long walk from hole 9 to hole 10. This disc golf course is located 30 minutes from any major state or highway. Pro players would probably only appreciate this course from long tees to long baskets for any other combination most baskets can be reached with midranges. From the shorter tees this course can feel rhythmic and may not offer enough variety or uniqueness for some. I could see this park being very crowded in spring summer due to its ideal choice for non-disc golf events causing spectators to be in fairways.

Other Thoughts:

I have played this course from all the combinations and each choice offers a different concentration of your game. Short tees to short baskets you will have to shape your midrange discs to get on the birdie train. Long tees to long baskets is I believe a great pro level course where you need to execute to stay under par. Several long 350ft tunnel anhyzer shots are required which are always a strain for any pro. I would recommend this course for pros and advanced for the long tees and everyone else from any other combination. It is a drive to reach this course but for this area of Southeastern Virginia well worth it. Even though the course is a couple years old it feels fairly brand new. It does need some trees to develop but as is still offers a good challenge or fun factor depending on the route you select.

Pros:

This course is rarely crowded but it is a hidden gem. The course is mostly open. Water in play on 2 holes.

-clean and safe
-2 tees, 2 baskets per hole
-concrete tee pads, long tees dyed red
-beautiful park on the North Landing River
- away from civilization
-practice baskets
- 2 sets of clean bathrooms (1 near tee #1 and 1 near tee #10)

Signature hole: #8 out to a penisula

Cons:

There aren't many obstacles but it can still be challenging.
- can be windy
- Snakes near the water hazards.
- No elevation
- long walk from #9 to #10
-bathroom near the 1st tee is not open in winter

Other Thoughts:

The park is located on Pefley Rd. off of Munden Point Rd. The 1st hole is near the basketball courts. The practice baskets are across the road from the 1st tee to the right.

Tricky navigation spots:
After #6 look to the right for the next tee, straight ahead is #8's tee. After basket nine follow the perimeter of the park past the boat launch to find tee #10. Other than those it isnt hard to find your way around.

This is my home course and I will gladly be your guide!
