Squeaky clean college niner

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 1, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Pretty little nine-hole course that loops counterclockwise up and across a moderately steep landscaped hillside at Eastern Mennonite University. Most holes had trees and bushes to miss, so some line shaping is needed. I would describe the course as being on the moderately wooded side of lightly wooded, if that makes sense. I would not be surprised if the course grows more technical as trees and shrubs mature.

Practice basket and a course map near the parking lot. Level turf teepads are long enough for such a short course. Blue-banded Discatcher baskets were mounted level and caught well. Basic tee signs list hole number, distance, and par, which is sufficient for a short course like this. Easy navigation between holes, even without a map or app. Near-zero chance of disc loss.

Gorgeous views across the Shenandoah Valley to the Blue Ridge Mountains while you are playing the course.

Cons:

If there was visitor parking nearby I did not see it, so I parked in a "permit only" lot near the course, played quickly, and was done before anyone came around to give me a ticket. Whew.

Moderately busy paved walking paths cross the course near a couple of the fairways. Generally pedestrians are easy to spot, but you might occasionally need to wait before throwing.

This is a short, nine-hole course without a lot of distance variety. Hole lengths ranged from 150 feet (uphill) to 230 feet, with most holes around 200'. I could easily have played with just a putter, but did find a midrange useful for some "over the top" lines.

Other Thoughts:

This is an attractive little course and I enjoyed playing here. To be fair, I seem to enjoy putter courses more than most people. Anyway, grab a putter, maybe a mid, and go run some aces. The first hole is uphill with a somewhat low ceiling, but the rest of the holes play across the hillside and back.

Hole 6 is raised on a stump with a fairly steep slope near the basket, so definite rollaway potential on drives and putts. I thought this added a nice risk-reward element, but you might feel differently if you clanged a putt and your disc rolled down to the parking lot.

No alcohol or tobacco on campus. Please respect the local rules for the short time it takes to play this course.
