Far Out

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 15, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Neptune Park is spread out and has many other activities going on there besides disc golf. It's located right next to a pool, tennis and pickleball courts, baseball, soccer, walking paths, horseshoes, etc. etc. etc. The course starts on the edge of the course with a couple of interesting holes with hole 2 being a tight line with trees on your left and and out of bounds road on your right side. From here the course gets more open and plays around the pool, parking lots and tennis courts until it loops back around towards the parking lot. There is a good mix of distances at least to keep it enjoyable and some of the basket locations are place near or behind the few trees in the park.

Cons:

Hole 7 is an example of really bad design and not thinking ahead. It plays across the parking lot for the pool and tennis/pickleball courts. Anytime I see a hole designed across a parking lot I just shake my head. I've seen many holes like this over the years and very rarely do I get to play them because parking lots are usually filled with cars and sometimes people getting in or out of cars, not a smart place to put a disc golf hole in where you're throwing little plastic missiles.

I really disliked the tee signs being built into the back of the tee pads. They are little wooden stakes that come up just below your knee and make run ups quite awkward. I stumbled on one of these and a few other times wanted to throw from that area of the tee pad and couldn't. It essentially narrows the tee pad to only being able to use the one side of it.

Although this place has some trees it also has very few of them with more wide open holes than I would like. There is absolutely zero elevation here and bad shots are not punished very well.

Other Thoughts:

I got here at the end of an all day course bagging trip with this course being number 7 on the day. I played this course is half light, half darkness as the pool and courts next door had lights on helping me see. My glow TL and I managed to get this in just before complete darkness. I was shocked at how many people were out here using the park at that time including some Larping teenagers. Overall nothing exciting but if you're heading towards Lake Wolcott this is worth to tick off the list for you course bagging types.
