I've been Thunderbolted

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 25, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fun and challenging Disc Golf course on High School property.

Mach 7 baskets (1 per hole)

2 teeing areas per hole (Green turf color, short tees) (Black turf color, long tees)

Beautifully crafted entrance to this course with kiosk with map of of course (I didn't see any distances listed, see cons section)

Really nice un-tagged park benches everywhere (I'd like to know what the ratio of park benches to park space is. Whatever the number is, it was amazing to see that many benches)

The pictures that fellow DGCR JFellows posted in the media section of this course show the actual layout of the course from both tees and the distances from each tee, Great work JFellows!!

I liked hole 2 a bending anhyzer drive around a few trees gave me the chance for my only birdie today on this course. I also liked hole's #7 and # 8 as those holes gave me a chance to air it out (though I usually like playing wooded courses)

Cons:

Some of the lines we're very tight, meaning= a few trees could be cut down to make for a fairer lines with both tees being considered. I thought the inner section of the wooded part of the course need a few trees thinned out, Especially since this course is geared for High School students.

No tee signs, There we're signs indicating what hole number you we're playing. But no layout of the hole nor distances on the signs. (I didn't have any issues finding either of the next tees and I see this more and more often since more players are using Udisc for navigation purposes)

Even at the beautifully crafted kiosk at the entrance of the course was there no mention of distances of each hole.

Other Thoughts:

I wish I went to school here and got to play this fun and challenging Disc Golf course on the schools property between the parking lot and the soccer fields.

From what I saw it appeared to be a very nice community with a beautiful school.

I'd give this course a 3 rating if they showed the distances to each hole

Training the next generation of disc golfers

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 22, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Excellent Mach 7 baskets
2 turf tees (green and black) bracketed by wood supports with somewhat different lines
7 fairly heavily wooded holes, mostly with clearly identified fairways. Hole 7 plays 'out' into a field, with Hole 8 playing back 'into' the wood.
Nice variety of hole distances (between 170 and 390 ft)
Easily accessible to Northmont high students or locals (after school hours)
Easily playable in 30 minutes for a quick round after work, etc.

Cons:

No tee signs, needed UDisc to see distances.
Needed UDisc to find next tee/basket (for my first play through) as the course winds back into itself and then takes off into a field where the view of the basket is hidden behind a building.
Land is 'low' so ground will likely often be spongy

Other Thoughts:

I love having courses at schools to get this sport into the minds and hearts of the next generation of disc golfers. This course provides a nice variety of challenge, with both short holes and a couple of bombers. I would argue that the technicality of the course does not make this an ideal 'beginner' course, as I was only able to score -4 my first time through. A couple of fairways could use some 'cleaning' up with several 1-inch diameter trees being removed. My guess is that with play through the years, the major offenders will be sorted out, one way or another. Definitely worth playing if you are local or a course-bagger, but not something I will travel to play again.
