Baskets around a well-kept park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 22, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Very nice, well-kept suburban park. Mixed activities but with few exceptions, the disc golf is pretty well separated for the rest

+ Excellent signage, very good baskets

Cons:

- While it's a pretty setting, and there are a few lightly-wooded holes mid round, there's nothing really memorable here

- Consider your play times: park traffic might interfere with your round on busy days, especially on the second hole (you're throwing across the main road in), the sixth (which crosses what appears to be a prime picnic area), and the tenth (where you're throwing directly alongside a ballfield)

- Judging from the pictures on this site, the original 9 was made into 18 by adding a second set of tee positions since 2015. There isn't a lot of difference in play between the two 9's. I guess "18 holes is better than 9"?

Other Thoughts:

~ Par on uDisc is a generous 33 (10 hole layout), giving you extra strokes on the three holes at or above 400' - but the on-course signage clearly indicates they're par 3's. I noticed this when I was looking at my photos, and went back in and corrected my card

~I played on a rainy day, and didn't want to get my bag soaked - so I played the "A" layout with just a putter, for a +4 through 10 holes. If you're at all experienced, I suggest you do the same: bring a putter and force yourself to use it on every shot

~ This is just a "baskets in a park" layout. It plays mostly in it's own spaces, the signs and the baskets are fine. Good place for newbies, or for throwing practice while your kids are using the ballfields

A great little trip in the summer 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 5, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great variety in distance.
Creative water hazards.
Well maintained/groomed.
GREAT baskets

Cons:

Bad pads (just a bar to throw behind)
Only 9 Baskets.
Long walk after hole 9.

Other Thoughts:

Ontelaunee is a small gem in New Tripoli, that offers a fairly unique approch to the "Park Courses" Within the valley. The creative use of ponds and creeks makes for a challenging course that does not feel too constrictive when lining up your shot. The DISCatcher baskets are also a great feature here.

The cons for this course are typical of a 9 hole design. I dislike the walk from hole 9(10?) back to hole 1. It isn't the farthest i have seen, but its still inconvenient.

Also the lack of pads is a bit unnerving if it has rained any time close to your visit. Since you are throwing on dirt pads it can be uneven or slippery, so you need to keep an eye out for that.

Overall I enjoy playing this course, and we make it a staple trip within our group at least 2 times a year. Well worth the drive to give it a go.

Ontelaunee Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 17, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nine DIScatchers and a practice basket and fair condition. Each hole offers two tee areas, marked with a white strip, almost like a pipe. It's a rather short course, but you'll have to earn your birdies. Some challenge awaits you on every hole, from different lines to OB behind the basket (3) to water right (4b). Great to bring a beginner to, just make sure you help them to understand when not to throw (see cons). Plays quick. Depending on the volume of the park, you can get inventive with additional OB (see other thoughts).

Cons:

As it is, there is really no wow factor. It's not a complete pitch and putt, as hole four will show you, but nothing that stands out. Don't miss the fairways, especially on 1, 2, 4, and 5. You will not enjoy being in those areas. Hole 1 plays right next to the entrance road, can be dangerous, just don't throw if anyone is nearby or passing cars are nearby. Same goes for the drive of two. Soccer games can take out hole 4a and 9 completely.

Other Thoughts:

You can get creative with a few of the holes, You should play entrance road OB on 1 and same with creek, but you can play pavilion OB on two, soccer field OB on 4 and 9, make some mandos in your own group to make things more interesting, By all means don't waste your time driving out of the way to play here, but it's not a bad course if you're passing through or living nearby.

New course appears in New Tripoli 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 13, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Plenty of variety in the shots and a beautiful park. There is the occasional dog walker but they try not to get in the way. A nice place with nice people.

Cons:

There is a chance if you throw bad on the first few holes you will have to search some thorns for the disc.

Other Thoughts:

I'd like to see this course get to 18 holes if ever possible. Even if that means repeating baskets. But auxiliary is fine still. And make up your own new shots if you feel up to it. I've seen people throw from basket nine/tee four and aim for basket one.
