Solid Addition to the Eau Claire DG Scene drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Plenty of parking space available.
- Practice basket.
- A decent amount of elevation change.
- Baskets are nice.
- Some memorable holes for a 9 hole course!

Cons:

- Multi-use park. May run into the occasional trail walker or kids at the park.
- Lack of tee signs.
- Rubber mats for tees is not ideal.
- The rough can get very overgrown.
- Buggy in the summer.

Other Thoughts:

- Overall a really solid 9 hole course. If you play the 9 twice and add a temp hole to the practice basket (take care of the playground) you can play 20 holes. Some cool shots that utilize the elevation of the area.

Towers Jr. 2+ years

Pros:

Pinehurst Park plays through the wooded area of a multiuse park on the north side of Eau Claire. As my title would suggest, it reminds one of a mini version of Tower Ridge. The course plays along cross country ski trails for the most part. If someone were to show me pictures of the two courses I'd be hard pressed to tell you which is which. That's a good thing though.

The baskets are the all too familiar Lime green Prodigy's. These are better than average and can be seen pretty easily from the tee in most places. One pin position per hole as far as I could gather.

The tees are black rubber mats. A couple different types actually, and hole 10 just natural.

The flow of the course starts pretty easy, with a few next tee arrows guiding you through pretty seamlessly. It gets a little trickier as you go along. A map is highly recommended. The course does start and end near the parking lot though.

There's a good mix of shot shaping required here to score well. Left to right, right to left and dead nuts straight. Really good mix for a 9 (10 hole actually) course.

The course is free to play, generally clean, and probably not usually too busy.

Cons:

The lack of tee signs is my number one con. A basic hole map would do wonders here. And the distance wouldn't hurt either. Hell, I'd settle for just the hole number to know that I'm in the right spot. A little goes a long way.

My second, and now that I think about it, 1A con is the atrocious rubber mats they have for tees. These may possibly be the worst rubber pads I've ever seen. They are starting to curl upwards around the corners of each pad like venus fly trap. I'd honestly rather just tee off from the ground. They look like the eggs from the movie Alien, after they'd hatched. Just plain awful.

The flow is not great. It starts out ok, but then as soon as you really need a next tee arrow...POOF...there's nothing. More than a little annoying.

Other Thoughts:

This is a solid addition to the Eau Claire area. Probably the best 9 I've played here. Tied with Mt. Simon at the very least. But this could be SO much better. All the features are right there, they just need some refinement. There's all kinds of fun shots to be had, but then it's just the little things that leave you a little irritated. Better pads, basic signs...that's it. Add these and this is an easy 3.
