Tower, This Is Ghost Rider Requesting A Flyby 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 12, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

(2.263 Rating) Ace runs galore, so fitting for an air force base course.
- ACEABILITY - Very similar to the nearby Ferry course in this regards. Lots of short and light obstacle ace runs. I'm sure regulars rack them up on this course. Aces are probably not as frequent as that of the short tees on Ferry but are likely more in line with the frequency of Ferry's long pads. I'd be willing to bet that an advanced player will hit an ace here every 30 rounds. Rec players will also be able to add a notch or two as well if they play this one enough.
- FORGIVENESS - The odds of losing a disc due to an errant shot is very low at Post'l. Really your only chances are to throw one high in a tree, forgetting to pick up or throwing one out to sea in disgust.
- TEES - Looks like the concrete pads were recently poured and they were done very well. Roughly 6 x 10s with a slight flair at the launch side. They are however a bit short on the longer holes and they are protruding a good 6 inches out of the ground on several holes. I personally had to really think about my footwork dance several times before throwing on a few holes.
- NAVIGATION - Seemed easy, however I had a guide for this one. Considering the openness of the layout, the next tees were always visible from the prior basket. Really the only issue I see is throwing to the wrong basket which I would have done if not stopped in doing so from my group mates.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - IMO the most forgiving and beginner friendly layout in the area.
- QUICK PLAY - It took just under 2 hours for 3 throwers and my energetic 3 1/2 year old to complete. This one should be easy to finish in under an hour solo.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - About average or a touch above. Lots of moderately spaced older pines to throw threw, as well as a few nice sized oaks. There are drop back views toward the intercoastal waters on a few holes as well but the water way does not come into play. No real blemishes along the layout other than a couple gravel paths and one utility pump fenced off by barbed wire.

Cons:

Only a couple issues with this Post'l.
- ACCESS - Being Military and knowing someone who is, is required.
- UNIQUENESS - Not to be confused with shot shaping, but compared to the other 6 courses in the Fort Walton Beach/Destin area, The hole variety is very much lacking. Tunnel and pocket shots are very lightly defined. Baskets in general are typically only lightly guarded. The holes distances vary a little for an all par 3 course (150 - 400). No water clears or parallel water features to force a line.
- ELEVATION - About as flat as they come, but typical for the area. If elevation is critical to your enjoyment, I can only recommend checking out Anderson Pond in Niceville which has some 20 foot changes.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - Upper Intermediate players and above will be unchallenged by Post'l Point. Advanced players should be able to throw -10 or better often. Rec players should however love this one and they will have numerous opportunities for birdies and it will push their technical ability for sure. I will however end on a positive note. Several holes do require a little shot shaping. You just can't grip it and rip it on this course without some thought.
- CHARACTER - A touch below average. Only one set of tees, no multi basket locations, no practice basket, and only a few benches. The tees however are a bit above average (see pros). There is a massive shelter with tables close by and the signage is adequate for this type of course.

Other Thoughts:

Thank you to Mr Butlertron and Wife for getting me access to this one. Post'l was the last course hold out for me in the Destin/Ft Walton Beach area.

Beach Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 9, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- free to play, free to park
- bathrooms on location
- BEACH ON.LOCATION
- easy to follow design
- concrete tees
- informative tee signs marked with distance to pin ( distances are sometimes wrong)
- impressive assortment of RHBH and LHBH themed fairways
- fairways filled with tall tress that help shelter players from the sun
- clean well maintained fairways
- ace runs
- low traffic course
- room for course expansion

Cons:

- buggy fairways in summer
- flat course
- tapered tees
- no alternate pins
- no multiple tees
- some baskets overlap the other fairways
- limited access to base
- paved roads boarder some fairways
- early sections of the course are prone to flooding, don't drain well after a storm
- not much fairway definition
- some tee signs are starting to become sun bleached
- Outdoor rec uses parts of the course for other activities
- too many short, unimaginative fairways

Other Thoughts:

By the looks of the property, I can only surmise this area was once a sizable RV park. There are remnants of old utility boxes here and there, small paved paths running all around the park, and there's waterside lodging adjacent to course. Post'l' Point's concrete tees look great, each has an informative tee sign listing distance and basket direction. Tall, bare trunked, high limbed trees are scattered throughout the course. These tree filled fairways make for great obstacles without clogging up the fairways. The high canopy also helps create natural shade. Fairway lengths vary between short and medium distances, one or two of them are little longer.

Post'l Point's flat landscape feels a little bland and repetitive. Baskets could use a splash of color or a flag to help them stand out. I think something as simple as adding multiple pins would greatly help add variety. Minor cons aside, I was pleasantly surprised by this course. Everything looked new, the course was clean, and the overall design was sound. There's not a whole lot of wow factor here, but it's pretty special compared to your typical military style course. Better yet, there's a beach on location for post disc golf recreational enjoyment. Come for the frolf, stay for the beach!

Travelers beware: ODR is incredibly lazy and will schedule various events that may block holes 1,17 & 18 instead of using open, non disc golf designated land, slightly further away.
