Pros:

Let me just get this obvious one out of the way first- the pro shop here is the Marshall Street Disc store- huge selection of discs and the staff is very cool. I have been to other large disc stores (GGGT, DiscNation) but those were not paired with a great course on site (oh yeah, and there just happens to be another great course and pro shop just down the street at Maple Hill). On to the course itself:

First, check out the pictures of the tee signs. It doesn't get much better than that- large, colorful, informative, helpful- an excellent symbol of the care and pride here that was evident from start to finish. And since each hole has 2 baskets but 1 tee, there are two signs hanging off each post. Large practice area with several baskets.

This is mainly a wooded course, but nicer than the usual technical course, and having a bigger feel to it. There are a few openish shots on the back (14,16) to add some variety. Many holes incorporate elevation of varying degrees. A beautiful creek is in play on several holes- and this helps make holes 4-6, and even 7-9,one of the most scenic and beautiful stretch of holes anywhere.

My experience, due to limited time (had to get in Maple Hill too!), was playing 1 round to the shorter silver baskets. The Silver baskets are shorter but still required a decent amount of different shot types having to deal with elevation/flat, varied lengths short/long, shaping left/right/straight- the usual factors with a well-rounded course design. Also, I felt there was a great balance and range of hole difficulty (I have played courses where every single hole drained you, and others where every hole was an easy birdie- not Pyramids). I would love to play multiple rounds here and wished I could have played a round to the gold baskets also.

Cons:

The middle section of holes (7-10) felt a bit repetitive playing up and down the same ridge a couple times in a row, plus those holes played close to one another and weren't more individually isolated like the rest of the course.

Needed some help from a local finding 14 tee due to multiple path options from the basket.

The busy driveway is very much in play on 17 and 18.

Other Thoughts:

$6/round or $10/all day - *Despite DGCR listing Maple Hill as being another course "on-site", from my experience and conversation Pyramids/Marshall Street Store and Maple Hill seem to be completely separate entities. 2 courses, 2 pro shops, 2 different rates to play, 2 different addresses, 2 different parking lots, in other words paying for all day play at one does not grant access to the other course. These are just 2 really good courses very, very close to each other.

River, hills, and trees, oh my! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 9, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Tee areas are great, tees are solid and level, signs are clear and helpful.
-Baskets are bright colors and easily located from the tee, Baskets are also in brand new condition and they catch exceptionally.
-Fairways and roughs are in decent condition
-Elevation is used awesomely, there is a nice big hill which 6 and 7 play up and down, with several other holes around it using the hill as well.
-Trees are well placed as obstacles, no hole has too many trees
-Water is used really well, not really danger of losing a disc but, it comes into play
-Good benches on most tees
-Really beautiful course and area

Cons:

-The river, while a nice aesthetic and fun obstacle, makes for very muddy footing around it
-This course gets a 2/4 on the new Shoe Index.

Other Thoughts:

There aren't many cons, because this course is really great.

Pyramids - The Gateway to the Heavens 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 27, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice private course with large single rubber tees with excellent signage and benches and brooms. Course is easy to navigate especially with the nice bridge-work to cross the creek several times. Two baskets on every hole short Silver Chainstars and long Gold DisCatchers providing good difference for skill level and changing the look of each hole.

Excellent course design providing a myriad of challenges playing over a variety of terrain. The first 3 holes play through speckled woods with gentle elevation slopes and requiring some line shaping. Holes 4 and 5 add to the challenge playing next to or crossing the creek with the gold basket on 5 on a fun and dangerous approach to a peninsula green. Hole 5 was my favorite. Hole 6 through 11 play up and down a steep wooded slope and across the creek. Hole 12 is a beast multi-shot hole that starts uphill through the the woods and into a more flat open area with the baskets. Hole 13 is a long tight tunnel that plays alongside a steep ridge to the left. Hole 14 changes up the pace playing multiple shots through the more open flat Christmas tree area. Hole 15 is a short flat ace run with two distinct lines and I aced the short basket on the hyzer line with my putter. Hole 16 is a flattish right curving shot. Hole 17 and 18 play through the woods alongside the driveway, with 18 Gold back into the open by the parking lot.

Loops back to parking lot/pro shop. No underbrush, very clean and well maintained. Marshall Street pro shop onsite. Portapotties by parking lot.

Cons:

Nothing major. Only one set of tees per hole and rubber. Holes 6-11 were a little repetitive playing back and forth the creek and up/down the hill side, and holes play a little close together. Hole 18 long basket could be a safety issue.

Rollaways can happen to good shots on some of the holes. I parked hole 7 short and it rolled all the way back to the creek.

Other Thoughts:

After my long drive to the course, I stop in the Marshall Street pro shop to take a gander at all the shiny plastic and try to resist buying more than I need, but that didn't work out very well. So with all the plastic I bought, I got a free round to the Pink course which was a great warm up and confidence boost after acing hole 1. :) The 18 hole course is still $6 to play unless you have a club membership. If I lived in the area I would definitely buy the membership and play here often.

I think the Pyramids complex gets a little unfairly over-shadowed by it's world renown neighboring Maple Hill complex, but IMO the Pyramids can hold it's own weight and provides a more relaxing and fun playing atmosphere. Playing both of these complexes provides for a fantastic disc golf destination experience. Highly recommend playing both if in the area.

At least 4 stars, but not quite perfect... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 11, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Beautiful brooks and scenery, it can rival Borderland's
- 2 colored baskets
- attached disc shop is largest in N.E. I think
- parking is spacious
- paid course means fewer players but it also means players who like to hang out and play slow...

Cons:

- Some more trees need to be cut down please.
- Packed gravel road is a lil' rough on tires
- Next tee box isn't really clearly marked although there's a very useful map/pamphlet that you can get from shop. But please reference Muldoon Park's taped arrowed method.
- $6/play or $10/day

Other Thoughts:

This course is quite amazing, but more trees need to go unless you enjoy playing pinball bouncing / russian roulette type of play. Just too narrow spaces between all these trees! But otherwise, I really like this course.

Kid in a candy store 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 5, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a fun and enjoyable "home style course." With maple hill just down the road, you can plan a great vacation with these two courses. First off, the pro shop is fantastic! It adds to the experience and really helped this course earn an excellent rating. As my title describes, the pro shop gave me the feeling of being six years old and walking into a magnificent candy store.

Now on to the course. The course is well laid out, with some significant elevation changes and good variety in hole lengths. Variety in shot shapes as well. OB stream comes into play on several holes and makes for some extra challenge.

Where this course really earns its stars is the immense fun factor. With maple hill down the road, this course would provide a break from the many challenges of maple hill. Two permanent basket locations for each hole, add variety and challenge to each and every hole. The long pins will challenge even the mist seasoned of players.

The awesome elevation changes is what really drives this course home for me. There is a good mix of downhill touch shots and tougher uphill shots. The designer(s) did a good job by incorporating the hill on as many holes as possible with out it getting to cluttered.

Cons:

Some of the holes in the middle of the course get somewhat repetitive. There are many holes that kind of blend in where you play down he hill and the back up, down the hill and back up.

#16s gold basket is relatively unreachable because of the angle you have to throw, over a 90 degree turn right.

#18s gold basket is right by the driving net. A well placed second shot can land next to the net a mere 15 feet away from the basket.

These are all pretty nit picky cons as there are not to many to puck out at this great course.

Other Thoughts:

This is a very enjoyable and fun course to play. However it really lacks the memorable or picturesque holes needed to give it a higher rating. All in all if you can I would highly recommend planning a day road trip to play maple hill and pyramids, two great courses just down the road from eachother.

Nice setup with fantastic pro shop 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 19, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Excellent setup, especially in the smaller space available.

Nice, grippy concrete tee pad on each hole. One tee at each hole.

2 baskets in place for each hole. One plays for the Silver course, one for the Gold. Both sets catch extremely well. The Gold course offers mostly longer lines, as well as different looks. Very nice for a smaller space.

Very nice mixture of woods, clearings and combination holes. Basket placements are excellent and bad shots are usually punished with unhappy lies.

Excellent tee signs, with all the information you could possibly ask for.

Cons:

$6/round or $10/day is somewhat steep, even for such a nice course, especially with Maple Hill close. I guess you can get away with that when you have a top notch pro shop on site. Yearly memberships ($100/year) are also available.

One set of tee pads...this is relatively offset by the dual baskets, but it's still a bummer in such a nice setting.

Other Thoughts:

The price of playing here might turn off some players, but it's definitely worth playing a few times if possible. The Marshall Street pro shop on site is excellent, as well.

Hard to leave without spending Money 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 4, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great wooded course... one or two really open holes to huk on. some tight corridors for technical play. Fit a nice course into a small space.
The guys at Marshall Street are Extremely nice and helpful. Great group of guys.

Cons:

Swatted by a tree in one fairway may put you in the previous holes fairway.
It is very hard to leave this course without spending a lot of money...though they let you play if you do spend.

Other Thoughts:

I had a tough round getting beat up by the trees. Everything seemed to just mis my target and get swatted our bounce off a tree. I only played this course once so far... So I might get better at finding the fairways but I struggled this first time.
Second Hole was built for me.... Love that Anny corridor. My Lat64 River and I love it. There are actually a couple of these right bending fairways. I got to try out a few Hyzer Flip shots on the narrow low ceiling corridors. Fun course I need to play again. Might have to spend a long day and play both this and Maple Hill together. You would get a complete compliment of all types of courses that way... wooded, tight, open, water, right and left bending... that would be a challenging day.

Well worth the $ 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 28, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

All around a great place to play and well worth the expense. Great use of available terrain. Course plays long and short, up and down, hyzer and annie. 2 baskets on 17 of 18 holes make for multiple options and ways to play. Course is spotlessly clean. Benches, tables, cigarette cups, garbage cans, tee pad brooms for god sakes! on nearly all holes. Some of the best tee signs I have ever seen. Pay to play keeps out the riff raff so I call it a PRO. Awesome, fully outfitted pro shop on premisis. The only better inventory I have seen is at Clearwater. Awesome tournament location, I am sure. I brought a map but only needed it on the transition from 4 to 5 as I has played the shallow basket.

Cons:

You have to get pretty picky to find things to gripe about. I would like "next tee" markers at the baskets. I know the next tee is marked on the signs... But sometimes I forget to look. Posts with disc bag holders might be a nice addition for the future. A few holes in the 7, 8, 9, 10 play close to one another. If the place was crowded it might get a bit squirley. It rained early today so some areas were a bit wet, but not too wet to interfere. Also was a bit buggy... But that is to be expected.

Other Thoughts:

My hole by hole comments are here. Overall an excellent course. I am happy to pay to play and would gladly pay again here or pay elswhere if it brough upgrades and a better course like this.

Hole #1 - Nice opening tree gate to begin the hole. Great metaphor for the start of the round of play. Assorted trees after that. Lush ground cover was unique for a forested course and I was intrigued to see that play out. Turns out that it is unique to the #1 hole.

#2 - Nice tree tunnel hole... and baskets are not at the end of the tunnel. Plays both annie and hyzer for great choices. Nice length for a drive to basket area even if your arm is not that big.

#3 - Classic woodsy hole. Good placement choices for baskets. Plays you into corner of property for next holes along and using water.

#4 - This hole is well done. You want to play a hard hyzer to get it down there, yet keep the disc out of the water. You can arc it forehand (assuming you play rightie) out over the water and bring it back into the woods. Great choices. Far suspended basket is fun, too.

#5 - This is my pick for the signature hole of the course. Plays long and short. Short basket has perfect set up/landing area. Deep basket offers more arm challenge. Water is used well playing across to both sides. Nice bridges as course improvments to make play easy. A beautiful sight form the tee pad.

#6 - And then there is 6... 6 is a masterpiece as well. I played 5 and was sure it was the sig hole. 6 is just magnificent... But I am sticking with 5 as the signature hole of the course. I could play 6 18 times and call it a course.

#7 - After the drop from 6, 7 plays as your first uphill hole.

#8 - Superb tree gallery, water at the back portion of the hole. many ways to play. Basket against natural will can make for punishing fall away missed putts. I put the disc above the basket and benefitted form gravity and slope.

#9 - Well placed mando sending you back up the hill.

#10 - Superb tree tunnel. Basket backed by water. easy on the arm and just float a mid range all the way down there. overpower the disc and you will hyzer off.

#11 - Nice assortment of younger, mid sized trees... harder to hit the skinnier ones with my drive. :)

#12 - Longer hole with great basket placement in cluster of young pines at the top. Fun hole.

#13 - Refreshing change. Along the ridgeline. Open and airy. A little bit of wind to clear the bugs. Close basket offers a HUGE fall-away penalty if you overshoot the putt. At that point might as well act as if you were playing to the far basket. Nice spot where deep basket is nestled there in the back corner.

#14 - Air out your arm on this wide open shot. Thank you for the flag on the basket.

#15 - A nice follow up to the big arm one. Nice missing BIG tree right where I would have hit it on my drive if it were there. Annie and hyzer choices.

#16 - A "shrub tunnel" as opposed to a tree tunnel. Leads to a wide open landing area. If you have good annie control you can hard hook a middie close to the landing area for the deep annie basket. The 13, 14, 15, 16 set makes for a nice change up after all that woodsiness and up and down the ridge.

#17 - Filler hole to get you back across the road for the finish at 18, but still has the challenge of you can not hyzer it or you will bang it off the shed. Too many trees to forehand it and not go tree banging, too. Nice challenges.

#18 - Classic woodsy finish to a great course. Brings you nearly back to hole #1 tee. Play close basket on 18. You are tired and your arm is spent. That will eliminate the concern of playing across the road.

The Northern Mecca?? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 17, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Ok, where to start?? It Pyramids DG. It's Marshall Street. While Marshall St really has nothing to do with the quality of the golf, you really need to consider them both when grading this course. It is definitely a destination course. Worthy of a road trip for several reasons.

THE COURSE

One nice, clean rubber tee pad for each hole. There is a broom at every pad, many benches and tables. Signs are great. They have 2 signs at almost every hole. One sign is for short(silver) and one sign is for long(gold) basket positions.

Navigation is obvious and simple. No issues even without a map.

Heavily wooded, technical course. In long positions there is even enough distance here for people with big arms. But, even with distance you must be able to hit lines and control your shots. This course is mostly tight and technical.

Nice variety. There are some basic short holes that give you a decent chance at birdies and possibly aces. There are brutal holes. There are lefts and rights. Ups and downs. Nice mix of shots needed.

Did I mention Marshall St is here?? One the best DG retailers in the world?? Very cool.

Cons:

Really none. There is probably not any super-memorable classic holes. Nothing I'd take a picture of and post on this site.

A couple repetitive holes on the front nine. Down the hill, up the hill. BUT, they are GOOD holes. So not much of a negative.

Gold basket on 18 crosses driveway. Not huge negative, but it's there.

Other Thoughts:

This is a very good course. There is simply a lot of solid DG holes. I loved hole 4. Playing the gold it is 521' of wooded DG with a creek coming into play. Then you finish with a slightly elevated hanging basket. Very cool, good looking hole.

Hole 5 plays over and along the same creek. Lots of danger, but just a cool hole. 454' of technical, fun golf.

6-11 play up and down the hillside with the creek coming into play a lot. Some people might see it as overly repetitive, but they are all nice holes, and it would be a waste not to use the elevation.

The back 9 offers less elevation, but has a few more open holes that allow you to break out your distance driver.

This course is a must play not only for its golf, but for the entire Marshall St experience. It offers a great pro shop, and a nice versatile DG course. You can play the Silver Course and have a nice moderate, wooded challenge. Or you can play the Gold Course, and get beat up on by a very difficult, longer, wooded course. All in all, this is a great place to play.

Where are the mummies? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 25, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays through hilly woods with a few smaller open areas. Most of the holes play in and around a small wooded valley with a stream in the bottom. The ob water comes into play on drives and around several of the greens adding some fun risk/reward decisions. Many of these holes also play up and down the side of the valley with some fun downhill shots and tricky uphills along with some tough roll away greens. A few holes play through some more open areas with longer distances and a different feel.

There is a nice mix of hole shapes, you'll need a wide variety of shots to score well. With two pins on each hole that offer some different looks there's even more variety. A few longer holes and some ace run chances mix up the lengths, and some of the silver and gold pins make some good sized distance changes. The signage here is excellent, with silver and gold signs on every hole showing hole layout and length. The tees are in nice shape, and the numerous bridges over the stream are a nice touch. It's always a bonus to have an onsite pro shop, and this is one of the best.

Cons:

There are several holes in the middle of the course that play up and down the same hill, and have a bit of a repetitive feel. The last two holes play along and over the driveway and parking lot, and aren't very challenging or interesting, a very disappointing end to a fun round. There are a handful of holes where the silver and gold pins are pretty close, and don't offer much change.

Other Thoughts:

The silver layout is relatively beginner friendly, though the technical lines and occasional rough might frustrate true beginners. More experienced players will find some nice challenges and enough variety to keep it interesting. This is a really fun round, and with Maple Hill just down the road it's worth going out of your way to play in this area.

A Must Play 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 15, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

- two great layouts, silver and gold, playing from a single tee to either a Mach or a DISCatcher
- some amazIng pin locations
- some tricky, man-made obstacles like woodpiles
- water, woods, terrain, open fields, mandos. This course has some of everything.
- benches near most holes
- the best signs I've ever seen, one set of gold, one for silver, giving a description of the ideal flight to the hole, with 3 pictures to go with said description so you can easily visualize what they're saying
- this course is home to the Marshall Street pro shop, probably one of the top 2 pro shops you can go to
- 2 double disc courts
- port-a-potties near parking lot

Cons:

- the front nine layout gets a little shaky when you just throw uphill, downhill. And by shaky, I mean repetitive and/or slightly dangerous if the course is crowded because you're sometime throwing very close to the next tee.
- not many trash cans
- some holes (like 13) look awesome, but then don't really have any lane to the basket when you step on the tee. That's no fun and can be frustrating, and it'll only get worse as the trees grow up
- holes 17 & 18. Honestly, with how nice the rest of the course is these holes are just lame. They throw down the driveway, back to the house simply to get you back to the parking lot and make it an 18 hole course. The last little bit could use some redesign.

Other Thoughts:

Marshall Street easily has the largest selection of discs and nearly every off-brand disc on the market. They just recently expanded the store into their old garage (the store is the lower level of the owner's house), so it is now twice the size.

No one was using the double disc courts while I was here, but the owner's are more than happy to show you how to play if there's not much traffic on the course.

There are lots of fun shots on the front 9. Even though it's just back and forth it is still more technical than the back. The back 9 will open up your arm a bit more as you climb out of the woods and back into the fields next to the house.

Even with some of it's cons, Pyramids is easily one of the best courses in the nation, especially when you take into consideration that it is the home of Marshall Street, and right around the corner from Maple Hill. A must visit course for any traveling disc golfer.

DG'ers paradise 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 3, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

For me this is where it all started.
The Pro Shop here is outstanding with a HUGE variety of discs, gear, and schwag with recent updates to the layout making it even more appealing.
The course itself is laid out nicely with a good variety of terrain. The first 11 holes working back and forth across a creek bed, (the creek itself is "casual" and small enough that you can easily retrieve any wet discs) up and down the fairly steep "valley" sides. Its fairly wooded here with a mix of big deciduous trees and saplings but the lanes are wide enough to make it playable, yet challenging. The elevation changes keep you on your toes and can cause some nasty roll-backs if you should hit a tree or get up on edge on your landing.
The mix of Gold and Silver tee/basket options gives you up to four course options for play. They also have a lost & found should you lose track of a shot (say down into the valley off the left side of hole #13 for instance)

Cons:

Hole #17 & #18.
After such a great day at the course, taking those last two shots down the ho-hum driveway/parking area is always a bit of a let-down. There's always a good chance your car will get nailed by an errant shot off the #18 tee pad.
To offset this, I've played both the Silver AND Gold on two other random holes sometime earlier in the day and skipped #17 and #18 altogether.

Other Thoughts:

Don't worry about Baxter, the white Lab Retriever. He's all bark and waggin' tails though he can come across as imposing.
The old, grizzled German Shepherd however, is rather picky about whom can come near. She'll let you know if you're not...

Home of the Pharoahs 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 19, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Special note: My rating went up a notch since they revamped the course in late 2011. Now, the worst hole on the course (#18) has been changed for the better - thank you!

Woodsy adventure that takes you through narrow, guarded fairways, through undulating elevation changes, and through a Christmas tree farm. Has two permanent pin positions for variety and immaculate teepads and signs. The course is fairly short for the most part, with many birdy opps., but a poor drive can be punishing due to many small trees outside the fairways, or some steep hills along the creekbed.

One of the greatest things about Pyramids is the disc golf pro shop on premeses. The selection is quite phenomenal (thousands of discs) and the staff most helpful. Give yourself extra time here.

Cons:

These are quite minor- some of the long (gold) pins are quite close to the silver pins, such that they really don't change the difficulty or approach to the hole much (#10, #11)

Other Thoughts:

A couple of the holes, especially #13 by the airport, and #14 can be maddenly tough if you don't play them smart. If you do, then you can par.

Just plain fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 14, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful setting, super clean fairways, great pro shop on premises, friendly 'locals', white layout not too tight but still a challenge for most DGers, gold is tough.

Cons:

Only one I think of is hole 18 plays over the parking lot. It's not a tough or long shot, but the thought of hitting someones car kinda sucks.

Other Thoughts:

I got to play league with the locals when I happened through the area. Ended up on a card with owner Jason Southwick and two other really nice guys. The course itself was gorgeous and so well maintained, but playing with the local crew made it that much more fun, thanks guys!

2+ years drive by

Pros:

Right down the street from Maple Hill. Large trees in nicely wooded forest. Longer technical shots. Plays up and down a stream valley for half of the course. Just enough long drives to keep the arm limber. Nicely layed out and well maintainded.

Cons:

slopes of the valleys can get slick in inlclement weather. Don't like shooting towards the parking lot on the eighteenth.

Other Thoughts:

More of a technical course than wide open. Definatey fun and the terrain is right up my alley.

Pros:

Well maintained. Great variety of hole styles. A good challenge with two sets of pins. Great scenery and a lovely walk through the woods.

Cons:

If you have no money you cannot play.

Other Thoughts:

The pro shop is astounding. Every disc I have ever heard of was there.
