1st Review - Disc Golf in the Caribbean!! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 24, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Disc Golf in the Caribbean!!
Good Discraft portable baskets.
Concrete (or platform) tees on most holes, the others are on hard packed dirt.
Good next tee signs.
Elevation - 2 uphill, 2 fun downhills and 3 on top of a ridgeline.
Great host with Merch for sale.
Views of the Sea from several holes, beautiful huge trees.

Cons:

A couple of the holes follow a dirt/gravel road for the fairway. Not too bad on the discs, but necessary for ongoing course maintenance and mowing.
There were some tree branches down the day I was there (Christmas Eve) due to recent heavy rains. But they will be easy to clean up after the holiday.
A couple of places where you could lose discs, left of #5 and right on #9. Creeks aren't a problem, they are shallow and easy to access.

Other Thoughts:

Good, quality course on this island off Honduras that is frequented by many cruise lines. The Discraft baskets are in great shape and surprisingly easy to see in this jungle setting. Really surprised to see they have installed concrete tee pads on most of the holes with several benches also available.
There are a nice variety of holes, primarily by the elevation used, but also left, right and straight holes. Having mostly straight holes also helped with seeing most baskets from the tees.
The fairways were a good size, I was expecting tight, narrow, holes through the jungle, but all give you a chance to reach the green.
#1 is not your usual, short and easy starter hole, tee in the open (within view of the Carib) over a small creek, with trees left and a hillside on the right, to a pin in an open grassy field.
#5 is a split fairway, to a basket below the tee level on a sloped fairway. Hyzer to the right side looked a little tight to me, so I took the forehand route, don't want to miss this one to the left. Basket is right next to huge 150 year old tree.
#6 - steep downhill, down the jungle to the basket next to another huge tree.
#8 is steep uphill, probably the steepest hill, that close to the tee, that I've ever played.
#9 is a beautiful downhiller, wooden platform tee, creek at the bottom, on your right, with the basket in nice grassy area, great finishing hole.
Tommy "Tsunami" Theriault is the builder and great host of this course. After a local called him for me, he offered me a bag and Discraft discs and showed me around the course. There are course maps at just about every tee, but it was nice to have a course guide, as I was on a tight time schedule.
Situated in the beautiful West End of Roatan, requires transportation from the Cruise Line ports. Or, you can contact Tommy and stay in one of the rental units on site that he built himself and stay a few days. Gorgeous beaches with shopping, bars, restaurants and the Roatan Rum Company nearby.
Eventually, Tommy wants to add another 9 holes, and more family activities, then set up direct transportation with the Cruise Lines. That will make it a lot easier to access this course.
PM me if you want more detailed transportation options.
