Great circular layout (9 basket is right by 1 tee.) An easier coruse but well maintained.

Wish there was room for more holes.

Never crowded ( I have never seen more than 2 other groups when I've been playing.) 9 out of 10 times I see no other golfers.

Like many good courses, Royston offers some quality layouts over rolling hills. And just as it gets going, your round is over.
- Royston feels like an 18-hole layout that one quits after hole #9. It's much better than the typical small town, beginner friendly nine-hole layout. There is some meat on the bone here.
- The course is located around the corner from the Ty Cobb museum. Just an interesting observation about the town. Maybe sharpen up your metal spikes for your round?
- I enjoyed the course. #1 seemed a little gimmicky by starting in an open field and putting the basket behind a line of pine trees. #9 is the worst hole on the course in that it's the only one that's wide open. Between those two holes, #2 - 8 is a perfectly suitable stretch. Most of those holes would be found on your average 18-hole course and they'd fit right in.
- #2 is the bomber hole, playing 470 feet from the longs. #3 & 7 are more technical layouts.
- The course takes advantage of the trees. From only a couple of strategically located ones on #2, 3 & 6 to heavier coverage on #4 & 8, the amount of accuracy varies.
- Course is spacious. Holes are well laid out and spread apart from each other. Very atypical of most 9-hole layouts.

Nothing major is wrong with this course. A handful of small things to be pointed out and/or improved upon.
- Tee pads are gravel/pads. You may notice it on run ups on the longer holes.
- Pedestrians on the walking trail may come into play with stray shots on holes #6, 7, or 9. Holes don't play over the trail, but a shot long or off-line may come into play with the trail.
- I didn't notice any benches or trash cans on the trail. It shouldn't be an issue as this is a 9-hole course, but it is worth noting.
- Perhaps the worst thing about the course is hole #9. It's the worst hole on the course. It's the only one that has no obstacle, playing in an open field. It's boring and ends the round with a whimper.

Royston Park was an excellent surprise. I'm always leery when a course has few reviews and/or hasn't had updates/reviews. Royston hadn't been reviewed for nearly 5 years (8/15 to 3/20). Seems like this course is getting overlooked.
- This really feels like an 18-hole layout that ends after #9. It's a nice, big loop through a section of the park, with #9 ending back at the beginning. It seems like you should be walking from #9 over to #10, but nope. Round over.
- Unlike many small town, 9-hole layouts, this course isn't aimed specifically at beginners, at least from the long tees. Holes aren't generally easy birdies. My round consisted mainly of tap-in 3s, but not birdie putts.
- I liked the feel/flow of holes #6 & 7. This duo feels like the reprise you get on many elite layouts - think the shorter holes/layouts found at the IDGC. These are the two most scenic holes and allow for some good shot making.
- The course is just far enough from other courses that it's not easy to get to. It's a decent drive from I-85, you're 30 minutes to Lake Russell, which is also out of the way, and you're a haul to the Atlanta/Athens or Upstate SC courses.
- One of the best nine-hole layouts I've played. A full 18-holes with this layout and you're looking at a possible 4.0 layout. Think Victor Ashe in Knoxville or the better parts of Foothills in Easley, SC.

Good family course with separate tees and higher pars for the little ones. Fairways are well groomed and open. The wooded holes do not have dense underbrush and are forgiving of mistakes.

Only 9 holes. Flow issues between 1&2 and 8&9. Tees were in atrocious shape - uneven, overgrown, slick. Ants everywhere.

* For only nine holes, it has a nice mix of short and long, open and wooded, and holes to the left & right of teepads
* Bag hangers on each sign are a nice touch I haven't seen before
* Good signage and easy to follow flow
* Red and blue tees on each hole; reds are well-placed for beginners and youngsters
* Nice level of difficulty for anything but the most skilled of players. Intermediate players can hope for birdies while beginners are unlikely to be completely discouraged
* Has a practice basket
* Alt pin placements on most holes
* Seems quiet enough for somebody to dream up a safari course to complement the official nine.

* The fact that the nine holes are so well-done makes you long for a full eighteen
* Some funny guy bent one of the spokes on the bottom on basket 9, and it's possible (but unlikely) for a disc to fall out. I'll try to bend it back next time I'm out there
* The trees that have been planted on #9 are too small at this point to provide the obstacle the designer intended, but time will take care of that
* A windy day will not be kind to you on this course
* Perhaps no real signature hole
* A few of the tees have weird lumps in them. I'm guessing there's tree stump under the pad, but it seemed sorta odd and a something you'll need to be careful of
* Also be careful on #8 - the pipe needles make this an easy one to slip on.
* Out in the middle of nowhere (sorry, Roystonians, or whatever you call yourselves). The road the park is on has no street sign either. Just turn at the road to the right of the Dollar General

Don't be fooled by the fact that this is "only" a nine hole course - it's well designed course and a pleasure to play.

The parks department even created a video explaining the basics of disc golf; very admirable - I'd like to thank them for the effort that went into this.

I added photos of everything since there were only a handful before; hopefully this will encourage more players to come out. It's a pleasant drive from Athens.

Nice mix of holes. A few requiring tight shots through the woods, many more giving the opportunity to bomb it.
Overall, this was a fun course but nothing stuck out for me to make it an excellent one. I did enjoy the basket for #8. It made that a challenging hole.

None to speak of except that it's only 9 holes.

2 sets of tees, one specifically aimed at the youth and beginners, our 9yo daughter played the entire course with a smile, that is a rare thing.
Good tees, they use the grid/sand pads and framed them out on the back and sides to keep everything in.
Good signs though a way to determine pin position would be nice with a few blind holes.
Amazing use of land which appeared to be a pasture at one time. The designer used the limited amount of woods and trees to full advantage and had great lines/openings cut out of them.
The park is new and gorgeous and has the amenities you would expect from a modern facility.
Something I have never seen, emergency call boxes out in the farthest reaches of the park, hopefully something like that would never be needed but it should make lone golfers/park users feel a bit safer.
Hole 8 is elevated on a large dirt mound and they had the foresight to cut steps in, all the bases are covered here. Attention to detail is in abundance.
Next tee signs for blue and reds will make sure you don't get lost. This is an often overlooked feature and just adds to why this course rocks.

Would be nice to have distance on short tee poles since they are usually way out of the way of the blues.

9 hole haters need to come play this because it isn't your typical 9. This course has great variety. The land doesn't have a large number of trees so a lot of baskets end up in a group of trees. The designer cleared the land thoroughly and properly so lines are clearly defined and there is no poke and pray to be had. There is good elevation and a variety of shot required. Many of the holes have an alt. pin and most of them offer a pretty decent change in the type of shot. The distances are good and the short pads are geared towards kids with a higher par that makes them feel good. We played the longs and then the shorts and the shorts are a great warm-up and good short-game practice. Kudos to the designer for the work done here. It seems like the locals are loving the game and that is awesome. The trip is an easy jaunt off I-85 if you are heading from SC to Atlanta, just pop off on 173 and come back on at 156.

I can't think of a better way to introduce people to the sport than this kind of course. The shorts are short enough for anyone and the longs are long enough for decent players to have fun with.

This is a great course for beginner. It has a good mix of open fairways and narrow wooded shots. The grass is well maintained and the local club has monthly work days to keep the course looking its best. There are bag hanger at every hole to keep your bag from getting stained by that famous Georgia clay. The signage is spot on with distant and direction to the basket. The arrows help out a lot with finding your way to the next hole.

The course is fair with the number of strokes it gives for each hole. You dont need a big arm to do well on this course. It's more of a slow and steady wins the race mindset that does good here. It's also pretty equal with how many holes are for lefties and righties. Overall a very well rounded course.

Some other pluses here is there is a bathroom at the parking lot; with plans to put in another in the back between holes 5 and 6. Its also well patroled by the local police, but they keep their distance and some of them actual play too. The course disigners did a good job separating the course from the running trail so you don't really have to worry about hitting anyone. The park itself is new and well maintained.

The basket on number 2 is hard to spot from the tee pad. Its hiding behind one of the big trees. The best advice I can give to help find it is to stand on the tee pad and line yourself up with the junior tee pad in front of you. The basket is behind the tree thats past the junior tee pad.

There are some pretty big gaps between the basket and the next tee pad on some of the holes.
Some of the tee pad have some runoff issues that need to be fixed.

The only other con is that the course is too short. I wish there were more hole to play here at this course.

There are more pros than cons at this course for sure. Im a local and play this course almost everyday and it still enjoyable. It's short enough to stop and play if your just passing through. But also long enough to play through twice to make it a even 18.

Also don't count out the junior tees. If you get bored with the blue tee, you can always play from the red tees and take one stroke off the par for the hole.

this is a great course if you are just starting and live in the area. I would not drive more than twenty miles out of my way to go, but if you live in the area or happen to be close by. go. this is a great course for beginners, but if you are advanced or even pro this would be a great place to practice drives and warm up for a tournament. it isn't hard but it does give enough challenge to get you ready for that big game the next day. it would also be great for a quick game during a long lunch.

I was thoroughly impressed by this course. My initial thought would be that it would be a typical 9 hole "pitch and putt". That is far from the truth.
Bring out the big arms, there is ample opportunity to air out some plastic here.
