Decent but Unremarkable Short Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 15, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Well-maintained, gorgeous setting within sight of the Rockland Breakwater and lighthouse. It's right next to the area where they set up for outdoor weddings, so quite picturesque. For the record, I don't think a wedding in progress would interfere with your round.

Open fields of manicured grass. Good baskets. Free to use for Samoset Resort guests with free discs to borrow. You could play all day if you want and take a two minute walk back to your room. If you're not a resort guest, well, I'm not sure anyone will question your presence so long as you don't look too out of place. It's not a busy part of the resort.

Course is a pleasant assortment of 9 shortish holes, the longest being 378 and uphill. Some are wide open, some have some trees and other obstacles to throw around. And some have slight elevation change. Tees are wooden platforms that are in decent shape.

Cons:

It's a very simple course, with pars set at a ludicrously easy level. Witness par 4s of 182 and 157 feet at holes #1 and #7 respectively. My noodle-armed self shot probably the first par round in my life but it didn't feel like an accomplishment because par was around six strokes too easy. They should be all Par 3's except maybe for Par 4's for holes #4 and #9.

I feel that if they invited someone in to at least reposition a few tees and baskets they could have an actually challenging or at least interesting 9 hole course very easily, but it's not their priority, understandably.

Occasionally the course is used for other resort purposes, as when they set up outdoor tables right by a basket for an event during my last visit. (You could play around it, at least when they weren't occupied.) Lastly, the teepads are adequate but could be better in quality and the mosquitos are plentiful.

Other Thoughts:

Previous reviews mentioned the possibility of expanding the course. It's 2021, and there's no expansion or evolution of the course done or on the horizon. I'd be surprised if they were to ever expand it, but they'll probably refurbish teepads and baskets every once in a while.

It's a perfectly pleasant course that's beginner friendly that I am happy to play a lot during my stays at Samoset. I'm just happy it's there as I don't play ball golf which is Samoset's main attraction. But it's nothing to go out of your way for, even though there aren't many disc golf options in this particular part of Maine.

Nice course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 14, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Short-er holes, nice tees, no long grass, the corse was made for beginners, good scenery, friendly and accommodating at the health center, and not crowded.

Cons:

You had to pay, so it wasn't private. Having a fee just to play would be helpful. We weren't staying at the resort though.

Other Thoughts:

Nice course!!

Pros:

Great place to have lunch. The course is great for families who have never played disc golf. There are only 9 holes but they may add another 9.

Cons:

longest hole was just over 200 ft. Holes were very close to each other.

Other Thoughts:

Shirts required to play here.
