This is a decently sized park that has multiple playgrounds in the middle of it while the disc golf plays around the outside of the park. It also borders an elementary school which is why one of the cons is screaming children everywhere. Perhaps it was just my experience but I played here when recess was happening at the school and several young children were playing in the playground. Perhaps you like the sound of screaming kids but I do NOT.

Overall a cookie cutter course, like it rolled off an assembly line or something. This is a course you've played dozens of times before. I used my Zephyr as a one disc round and enjoyed playing it that way. Any course bagger can get this done in uder 30 minutes. Not great, not terrible, just a course to tick off the list.

Challenges/Pros:
• Very large mature trees with some low hanging branches increase difficulty on some holes.
• Nice mixture of tunnel shots but also some longer wide open drives.
• Good cement pads but signage is weak. However, locals are friendly and helpful.
• Pedestrian walkways affect some fairways so take care.

Opportunities for Improvement:
• Scoring as primarily marked is more appropriate for youth.
• Signage should be improved.
• Add a good course map at the outset.
• One basket is tilted.

Perspective: Intermediate level, Master's 60+ player with low to intermediate arm strength.

Course Details/Info:
• 9-hole course plays around the periphery of Scera Park.
• Park is behind the pools (rather than reported "ponds") you see from the road.
• Organized in a somewhat clockwise fashion.
• Most holes 230-270' with one 336' (#6).

Summary of Rating/Play:
• Recommend playing all as Par 3's rather than as marked with the possible exception of #6 which is longer plus the pin is parked under low-branched trees.
• Most appropriate for beginning to intermediate adults particularly if want to work on controlled drives, approach shots, and putting
• Also good for Masters 50-60+ and for youth if they know some basics. Might be pretty frustrating for complete newbies with the tree cover.
• In general, I would rate this as a "3" course for the above groups but big bombers would probably prefer other courses.

Nice 9 hole course in Scera Park. Basket are in good shape. Great course for just starting out or practicing some new disc. Course is easy to shot under par. Lots of the shots are low from the trees.

Lots of traffic in the summer time. Wish it had harder shots or longer holes. The par 4's and par 5 should be par 3's but great for the beginner disc golfer.

Should be all par 3's on the course. Good course to throw. Little hard in the summer time because of lots of people.

Scera is a very lovely, flat city park with scattered mature trees. The park seems to share it's park area with an elementary school. There are some open spaces for soccer and really nice, outdoor theatre. The course navigates around all of these.

The course starts near one of the parking lots. The holes are marked with little green poles with metal tee signs on the sides. The little signs give just the minimal information. There are bag holders on the sides of these little poles but they were too low so my bag would sit on the ground anyway. The tee pads were just worn dirt areas. They are actually not bad. They obviously don't get enough use to get rutted. The baskets are DGA models with the red numbers on top.

The pars listed on the signs are for middle school aged players. For instance, # 1 is a 249' par 4 so either embrace that Par 4 and go for the easy Eagle and stick your chest out and smile when you Eagle it, as I do, OR play everything as Par 3's.

The course plays as an EASY recreational course. #1 and 2 are near identical holes, straight with just a little hyser needed. Go for the ACES here or they're a great place to practice your roller.

# 3 is a hole where I can some issues with the houses/fences on the left. They're close enough that newbies and junior high type players will probably launch a few into those yards.

# 6 is another where there could be trouble if the school kids are out for recess. I played early in the morning and it was just a big open expanse of green grass.

# 8 was a fun throw. There's some challenge of keeping your throw straight here.

I think probably the biggest con here would be the popularity of the park. There might be times when you might have to skip a hole or two. Come out at times when the park won't be so crowded.

The design does run close to the neighbors yards on 2, and 3 and close to school on # 6.

Short distances. Someone complained that some of the holes were just ACE runs. Enjoy those ACE runs. ACE them!

I found this to be a great little 30 minute round. It was fun, easy and not too challenging. You don't have to get your boots on. You can play in your flip flops. Play early before the crowds arrive. It had ACE runs. It had some great holes to work on my rollers.

Be a good steward for our game and use a little common sense when throwing around other park users and the neighbor's fences. When I feel uncomfortable about throwing too close to a neighboring fence, I often go to the roller.

Great for beginners.
Great for a quick round or for practicing. Can get through it in about 30 minutes.
Nice grassy park.

Watch out for pedestrians. Fairly crowded park and most are not playing disc golf.
Small and not much variety.
Should all be par 3's. Some holes are marked as 4's or 5's. No way.

This is one of the courses I learned to play on. It is a fun course for beginners and for children. Played with my daughter and my nephew. The first three holes are great for children. They loved it.

-Each tee is marked with a sign. (and most sign posts have hooks for bags.

-Good quality baskets, easy to locate.

-Hole 4 is a good blind throw around the fence of an outdoor theater. Hole 8 is a tunnel shot lined with trees, pretty fun if you can keep it straight.

Oh boy, where do I start?

-The first 3 holes are an ace race. Poorly designed. Their total combined distance seems about equal to the next shortest hole on the course.

-As of 6-8-15 the first three holes are "closed due to people being hit and discs going over the fence into private property." The tee signs and baskets are covered with orange bags, so you can still play them, it's just an inconvenience.

-This park has too many people which is a hazard. Hole 2, 3, and 6 interfere directly with playgrounds which are usually in use. I skip 6 when there's kids around. Hole 9 runs straight across the main grassy area of the park, which 75% of the time will have a volleyball/soccer game going on or something else with a lot of people.

-Tees are dirt. On hole 4 you can throw from a concrete pad about 20' from the tee sign.

-The course ends a good distance from the beginning. If you park at tee 1, the walk back should have another hole or 2 to throw, but it doesn't.

-No par 3's. Also, there aren't many obstacles. Other than hole 8, there aren't any tree shots, water hazards, OBs, etc.

-Take a map. The tee signs give distance, but no indication of the direction the basket is.

It's an okay course. Probably good if you're a beginner (if there aren't many people around.) If you only have an hour to throw around, it's a fun round, but definitely not a competition course. Okay for beginners and a last resort for intermediate.


UPDATE-Since review, course has been altered. Haven't played yet.

A nice park centrally in a location with access to many people. It was nice to have playgrounds where the children could play. I like beautiful parks with good trees and obstacles and this park had that.

This park feels like it was set up by someone who only read about disc golf. Some holes are aimed towards playgrounds and my hope is that someone will advocate a change before someone gets hurt. Also, #3 is pathetically short and #4 is too long for a blind throw at a busy park.

I use this place on my lunch breaks sometimes. It's a 9 hole, so I don't expect much. With a few adjustments, I think it could be worthwhile if expectations aren't too high.

Scera Park is a beautiful park with lots of large trees which make for a beautiful surrounding for a disc golf course.

Great baskets.

Good for beginners and children (who are playing disc golf, terrible for children trying to play on the playgrounds).

Hole 8 is a good hole.

The single largest con to this course is that the design puts two playgrounds at risk. In one case you're throwing directly at a playground on holes 6 and 9. This is completely unacceptable to me and really impacted the rating of the course.

Mud tee pads. Not grass or dirt, mud.

Signs are ok, but some are confusing.

Hole Breakdown:

Hole 2's tee pad is in the direct line of fire for hole 1.

Hole 3 is short, thank goodness, because it plays way too close to a playground.

Hole 4 has you play over parking areas in a kind of blind shot that could put park goers at risk.

As noted Hole 6 is a turnover shot that puts kids in danger, as does hole 9.

I'm all about disc golf courses in public parks, but I question the decision to put one in such a popular park that doesn't really offer a lot of room to play. For this reason I don't recommend this course for anyone but beginners and kids. Even then I hesitate as beginners will be more likely to put the poor kids on the playgrounds in danger with errant throws.

People are unaware of the disc golf course here and thus don't really know to avoid fairways and such. Be patient and courteous as a player and for the love of all that is holy don't throw discs into the playgrounds!

Hole 8 was a great hole. Just under 400' and straight with trees on either side. Need a great shot for a 2.

Difficult to find hole 1 - There are 2 parking lots for the park. One parking lot is by hole 5 and the other is by hole 9. Hole 1 is on the other side of the water park so park in that lot at the back.

Other park-goers in immediate play - A couple of holes are dangerously near playground areas and one hole throws across a main walking area. Several forced blind shots. A couple of teepads are only 20 or 30 feet from the previous basket.

Disjointed design - The first few holes are under 200 feet and then you get a 400 footer through a tight gap around a blind corner. Extremely flat and boring.

Dirt/mud tees - Never a good thing

Poor signage - On top of having difficulty finding the first hole the signs are minimal and there are no next tee directions.

This course is the perfect example of someone with no previous experience trying to do something good by adding disc golf to a multi-use area.

A couple of the holes are good but overall the design needs a complete overhaul. The main offense is the danger to children at the playgrounds.

I would have given this course a 1-star rating but because it is only 9 holes it warrants a 1/2-star.

Very well kept. Large park with an ok variety of holes. Great for beginners or anyone wanting a feel-good game (nice green grass and trees, very forgiving of bad throws). Lots of other things for kids to do if they're not into disc golf.

Can be a little busy with other non disc golfers, so I prefer to go earlier in the day. Beware of Hole #2 though. This hole curves to the right around a fenced area (I think it's someone's back yard). It's easy to toss a disc over the fence, and I've seen a few left there. The fence looks like people have hopped it a few times, but I prefer to throw it wide left and take an extra stroke if needed.

You have to have a spotter watch your disc. Not for the sake of finding it, but to make sure there's a clear throw with no one in danger of getting hit (especially around the blind corners and playgrounds).

There is a very nice park with a public pool, field, sand box, Pavilions and jungle gym for kids. This is the perfect course to take the family if you can make it on a day where it's not too busy with other people.
