Two Worlds 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 29, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Schöningen DGC is located in a beautiful little park (including carp ponds and a water fountain) next to a castle originating back to 1350.
As such, it's only a minute from downtown Schöningen with it's ice cream parlor and a couple good pizza and gyros places. Public toilets are available at the entrance of the park (or at the castle bistro) as is ample parking (either at the castle or on the supermarket parking lot behind #10).
The discgolf course itself is cut in half. Holes # 1, 2, 8, 9, 10 are in the more open section of the park with a little elevation changes, the ponds and some smaller trees. After #2 you cross over a wooden bridge and get into the second half with big Linden and Oak trees providing shade and shot shape necessity. Here you find a couple longer holes (including the sole par 4). After #7 you loop back over the bridge to finish the last 3 holes. The park looks clean and gets mowed regularly.
Hole #10 is something special: don't get fooled by the merely 128 ft, it's an absolute death putt from the tee as the basket is sitting right on the edge of a 15ft drop on 3 sides (spotter needed as there's a frequented path underneath). I got my first ace ever here, but if you miss, you are deep in bogey country and might end up in the lake.
Additional information including the only course map and scorecard can be obtained here (German only): https://www.schoeningen.de/sp...eit/disc-golf
Discs can be rented at the castle restaurant, tourist information and a couple other locations AND you can buy a set of Schöningen print discs for 10,00 EUR at the tourist info.

Cons:

There are no tee pads or next hole indicators throughout the park. The tee signs are simple wooden poles w/ metal discs on top that show the hole # and logo. Some of them are gone, and as there is no real course map you will spend some time on your first round looking for the sometimes hard to spot poles. I recommend getting the course map flyer from the link above.

Other than that, my biggest concern is that the first part in particular gets pretty busy when it's nice out. As it's right downtown, people like to hang by the lake for lunch breaks or picnic in the middle of the fairway, so #2, #8 and #9 I had to skip a couple times as there was no other (safe) way to play.

Other Thoughts:

I thoroughly enjoyed playing Schöningen from the first round on. I can't really put my finger on it, as no hole (apart from #10) really sticks out, and some of them are quite easy, but the whole setting, the transition between the "two worlds" and the easy access along with the quick play left me always well entertained.
It's a short, but nonetheless fun course to play and I already look forward to my next round here.

Pros:

Nice course for beginners and intermediate players alike. 3 open holes and 6 wooded holes create a nice mix of scenery. The current major of Schöningen, likes disc golf, so he is eager to keep the park in good condition and is always willing to let the local clubs have their tournaments .

Cons:

No Tee pads. Tee signs are made out of wood, some proper tee signs would be awesome and would make it much easier for newer players to find the holes. Dog-poo.
The better the weather, the more you will see people walking their dogs causing some delay times while playing.

Other Thoughts:

Upgrading to proper tee pads would be nice.

Take good care on hole 4! People don´t like discs in their backyards!
