Pros:
-good Innova baskets (With numbers! Why is this so rare?)
-nice park including walking path, plenty of parking, restrooms, swimming pool, splash pad, and a pond (it never comes into play unless you really overpower your drive on 9)
-some gentle elevation changes, used well on 3 and 6-8
-caters very well to the safari golf crowd
Cons:
-distance between first and last holes
-really open; only hole 4 tries to prevent the big hyzer
-missing signs on at least 4 holes; especially hard to know where to tee off on holes 1 (tough to find first tee), 4-5 (neither have the poles, so just look for the metal pole that used to hold the hole number and distance)
-home of Chickasha Festival of Light in the holiday season; I imagine that makes playing here tough in the afternoon/evening during late November and December
Other Thoughts:
This is a nice little course in an area that doesn't have many around. If I lived in the area, I'd play/practice here a lot. Lindsay has better designed (at least more challenging) holes, but the baskets are not as nice and the course is farther off the beaten path. Here, the baskets are great, which is always a big plus. The park hasn't been busy when I've visited, except when I stopped by for the Chickasha Festival of Light, held at this park in December.
The open nature of the course isn't particularly great for the quality of disc golf, except that it lends itself to creativity. Holes 3 through 9 are all in a large area with a few mature trees, a creek (dry or muddy when I've visited; never full of water), and some open fields. It would be very easy to make some fun, long, and challenging holes/shots here. The holes, as designed, are routine but decent for practice. As an intermediate disc golfer, I feel like I should be able to shoot an 18 through 9 holes, though I've failed each and every time.
As I mentioned, navigation can be a bit tricky and somewhat counter-intuitive. Hole 1 starts about as far as you can imagine from 9's basket, though you can easily throw to one's basket from closer to the parking area. This goes over a play area that has been empty every time I have visited. Please don't throw over kids, but if it's quiet I would highly recommend not using 1's intended tee. 4's tee is just a patch of missing grass, and 5's is about the same. I only found it because there was a local a couple holes ahead of me.
In summary, I like it better than some newer 9-holes that I've rated 2.0. Nevertheless, I'll keep it there due to the multiple missing tee signs at present, the lack of concrete tees, and the counter-intuitively long walk between start and finish. But it's fun, easy to get to if you're on I-44, and worth checking out.
