Pros:
- Park-style golf under tall oaks in a busy mutli-use park. Other park amenities include splash pad, playground, bathrooms, ice-rink pond, amphitheater, walking paths, etc. The park is well-maintained and seems a popular destination in the small town of St. John's.
- A small bit of elevation in play for a cruddy niner. Hole #5 throws uphill with the road behind, woo. Hole #'s 1-6 all use it to some degree.
- Good baskets, long concrete tee pads, enough signage to get the job done.
Cons:
- Very cramped section of park in which to fit a disc golf course leads to unsafe design and questionable design overall (such as having to walk the length of hole #6 just to throw back the way you just came). The road is in play almost the entire time. If the park is busy or any event is happening, forget it. Hole #'s 2-5 zig-zag all up on each other. Hole #8 includes a pavilion in the fairway, more or less.
Other Thoughts:
- If I lived nearby, I'd play it and grumble, but play it nonetheless. It's okay at non-peak times for a super quick round, and the kid's playground and bathroom facilities were nice enough, but St. John's is certainly nothing to hit otherwise unless one's in full-on course-bagging mode.
