Nice if you can get there 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Fairly easy course on a rolling hay field with very few trees. A very good course for a beginner. Experienced players will probably spend their time seeing if they can get aces.

Cons:

[Added 26 July 1014 - The course is unplayable. The grass is anywhere from knee high to chest high. Iost a disc on the 1st pin. It's somewhere in the grass, but I doubt it will be found until someone comes through to harvest the grass for hay - it will be playable again once it is harvested, but it's not worth the hike to see if it is playable - changed the Rating to 0]

The tees are wooden boxes with gravel in them. They have not been well cared for and are badly overgrown. In fact, 8 was so overgrown it took me a couple minutes to find it and even then I had to guess about where it was under the grass.

Finding the course: Nobody in St. Paul was able to tell me where the course was. It's on the road you turn onto to go to McDonalds. Drive to the end of the road (the canoe landing), park, and walk over the dam to the gate.

Getting there: At the gate it tells you "Disk Golf" is a half mile down the trail. You'll walk the first quarter mile on an old gravel farm road. Then you will see a sign that points right and says "Short Cut to Golf." You then spend the next quarter mile climbing up and up and up a deer trail to get to the top of Sugar Hill. It's a pain. However, it is far better than staying on the road. The road meanders all over the place. It's a pretty walk, but I kept thinking the course was right around the next curve or on the other side of the next hill over and over again.

I took up disc golf as a fun way to get some exercise. At Sugar Hill I get more exercise getting to and from the course than I do on it.

Other Thoughts:

The course is a hay field which has been laid out for disc golf. The grass is high enough that there is no such thing as a roll or skip. When your disk hits it stays.

I've been up there three times so far and not seen another soul on the course. I've seen one person walking the road (the town has set it up as a trail). However, I've seen lots of deer, including two that just walked out onto the hill behind the 8th pin and watched me throw from tee to basket before they lost interest and wandered away.
