A Bit Too Basic

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 29, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Seemed to attract an audience. Several people were out here playing. There are several holes that are very aceable. Most of them are around 200' with an average length of about 210'-225' depending on the pin locations.

-Great fairway variety. Many holes play straight, some turn left and some turn right. You'll throw more than just a couple discs here. Few skip shots would be rewarded here.

-Nice tee pads and tee signs. The holes have different names on the tee signs. #1 was called "The Green Mile" because it's the open hole on the course.

-Bridges are present when crossing the ditches and creeks. The stairs are nice too. The designers clearly thought about the fact that people of all ages play disc golf.

-I enjoyed the first four holes. #1 is a very pretty starter. Was the best hole on the course being downhill and tucked into the woods to a drop off green. Easy to navigate, tough to get super close on. #2 was an interesting hyzer over a ditch. #3 is a nice uphill shot to the left guarded by trees. #4 was cool being downhill into the woods from the park entrance fading right playing ideally as a putter or mid anhyzer.

Cons:

-After hole #6, the fun gets limited. Starts to lose a spark. Very few holes after #6 are fun. #13 was a cool little man made island hole. #16 I actually enjoyed because of the downhill tight line. Hole #10 though, I did not like. It's called "Pachinko Pass" and for good reason. Someone managed to make a gambling slot machine game even more dirty on the design of this hole. Has a fairway that turns hard left and vanishes at the landing zone. #17 was a frustrating hole playing along side a steep hill sloping downward left and turning pretty sharply to the right. Not as ridiculous as "Pachinko Pass" but still very irritating.

-Parking lot is very close to holes #12 and #13. Don't know why one of those two holes is not the starting hole. The walk to #1 isn't long, and granted you do see it when you enter the park property but still think #12 or #13 would be better for a starter.

-Interference with the walking trail. Especially on holes #8 and #15 from what I personally observed, but could be a few more.

Other Thoughts:

-It's an accuracy enhancer. If you hit the lines reasonably well, it'll pay off for sure. It's a good warm up for Little Mulberry nearby since it's almost exclusively wooded, like Little Mulberry. It's shorter with some easy lines and some that are not easy. You won't see much variety here because it's short and wooded but it's worth a shot I'd say.

Needs so work 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 20, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Had great signs with very nice tee-pads

Cons:

Layout is not the best. Very short and narrow fairways if you want to call them that. I understand the desire to make a technical course but leaving trees right in the middle of the fairway such as on 16, plus a very narrow turn to the right, makes it nearly impossible. Holes that could be easy twos are made difficult threes. Holes 10 and 16 need some work on the fairways.

Other Thoughts:

Great park, but wish the designer would have done more with the course than they did.

Small space, Red level 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 1, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course was designed in a small park

The course plays almost entirely in the woods, it will be well shaded in the summer and has a somewhat secluded feel in parts of the course.

The course will be great for red level players, forcing them to learn to throw lines.

There are restrooms just after hole 2 and there is parking at several places along the course. You can park near Holes 1,3 and 11-13.

There is a walking/running trail that weaves through the property and the course.

The signage is very well done including 5 foot tall next tee signs with the hole number and arrows. Overhead drawings on the tee signs have the distance shown on the intended flight path.

There are 2 tee pads on a couple of holes and most have 2 pin positions.

You can easily get through a round in under an hour.

There a few ace runs on the course. One being a 157' straight shot. This could go in the cons section also. That's a long jump putt for some people...

Cons:

A couple of the holes have quite a walk between them. This is obviously necessary because the design had to fit around existing paths, but still detracts from the experience slightly. For example after finishing hole 11, you see hole 13, but need to go across the parking lot to play 12. Then you walk back the entire length of 12 to the tee pad of 13.

Some fairways have a marsh off to the right. It doesn't interfere with the fairways, and probably won't flood high enough to affect the fairways, but one might have to retrieve a disc after some tree hate.

On hole 7, the fairway is very close to the running trail. I expect that newer players will throw discs on or over the trail on occasion.

In some cases the distance to a fairway turn might be a short distance away, but the remaining fairway is very long. For a red level player, this is fine, because they still have to make 2 accurate shots to get up to the pin. More seasoned players will be frustrated because you really should be able to park a 250' hole.

Other Thoughts:

This is a tough course to review. It is very definitely aimed at the newer player. The holes are short on distance, but an advanced+ person won't be able to park many of them.

So a Rec player will probably be happy with a par on most holes, while a more skilled player would be frustrated at a lack of birdie opportunity on the same holes.

Final thoughts:
A fair course for beginners, juniors or working on shots you rarely use.
Not a good course for more skilled players.
