Pros:

Swarthout Park is your quintessential park style 9er. In a good way though. Nine holes that are reachable by the vast majority of amateur level players and offer lots of birdie opportunities and even ace chances for mid level folks. Great beginner course and for introducing people to the game.

The tee pads are natural and the tee "sign" is just a small 4x4 with the hole number routered into the top. Nothing special but all you really need for navigation.

The baskets are DD Patriots. I was thinking they were Veteran's upon playing them. Apparently they're Patriot's though. I don't have a ton of experience of DD baskets so what do I know anyway. These catch well enough, not great, well enough. One basket and pin position per hole. These are powder coated white and really stick out nicely. Solid.

The flow of the course is pretty easy to follow. The first hole starts by the east side of the eastern parking lot and meanders thru the park in a generally counter clockwise fashion. Once you find hole 1, it's pretty simple from there.

The design of the course is solid for what was here to work with. Starts and ends by the parking area while doing a pretty good job of staying away from other holes and activities that may be going on. They incorporate some trees into almost every hole. Quite the feat to be honest.

The park itself is in a quite part of town, very peaceful area. The park appeared to have good upkeep and was very clean in general. Permanent and free to play. It's a newer course but I can see this one being one of the more popular chucker style courses going forward.

Cons:

The tee pads are natural. These are already starting to get rutted up a bit. Only a year in to it's existence. Not a good sign. You'd like to see some kind of tee surface added at some point. Preferably sooner than later.

Hole 8 has you throwing over the entrance of the west parking lot. Not ideal obviously. It's not hard to look before throwing, but that's a common thing we've all heard too many times before.

Hole 6 plays as a low ceiling hole with pine trees lining the entire right side of the fairway. Bordering on someone's yard. The WHOLE way. Errant shots from hole 7 can also end up in this person's backyard as that also plays as the right edge of the fairway. Asking for trouble here.

The road can come into play on a few holes too. While not the most busy looking area, it's worth noting. Just not a lot of room to work with. I hope this doesn't end up as the courses demise at some point.

Other Thoughts:

I liked this course so much I played it twice. Mostly because it's really fun to go ace hunting. If I lived near here I'd play this one a bunch.

Not worth going out of your way for, but you should absolutely throw a round or two if you're anywhere near here. Fun course with boundary issues. The absolute definition of Decent/typical.
