Teacher's Park DGC is located just NW of downtown Independence, IA. The area was/is so flood prone that the city did a buy out of a bunch of homeowners and created a new city park, added a band shell and disc golf. As for DG, it's an average city park course. Nothing too long topping out on #8 at 341'. The mechanics are good: nice tee pads, decent signage (with next tee marked), and acceptable baskets. The area is very flat, so zero elevation, but there are some trees to work around for interest. Hole #4 has a nice tee through a gap in vegetation. There are city streets crossing in a grid pattern, those have been kept, but the times I have played the traffic has been very little, so not much of an issue. With the house near the #6 basket now gone, there are yards on either side of the #6 fairway, but really way out left and right, not a big issue. The #2 basket used to be right next to the river (and sometimes a water hole if the river was up.), but it has been moved to the right in between the walking paths. Overall a decent city park course, good for the novice and rec players, a little repetitive and flat for the for the more experienced players. Be aware that this is a busy place around the 4th of July (the town is Independence after all), but otherwise fairly quiet. Take a little time and enjoy, I know I'll be back.

Tee signs and tee pads are located at each hole which is WONDERFUL! (some local courses have a lack of directions attached).

Layout is easy for beginners.

Holes range from 210-350ft.

A TON of parking is available.

No trouble finding a disc here (unless you throw in the water on one of the first few holes)

You throw across the walking trail a few times.

Hole 2 tee pad is not aiming towards the basket (I think a flood caused the basket to be moved from the original layout).

You throw near many side streets and park shelters.

Nice course to have in town. Great to bring beginners to. Advanced players have to crank a few out and there are plenty of trees to work around!

This was a surprisingly fun course and it's really easy to play two rounds since 1 starts just a few feet away from where 9 ends. The design stars on the outer radius of the park and then moves along the river and into the park, then (due to past flooding and razing) into the a few vacant lots that the city has appropriated. So eventually your teeing off nearly the residential area that's north of the park.

There is an attempt by the park designers to incorporate some natural obstacles, which is always nice, but the course is fairly flat.

It's pretty easy to find. It's just a tad north of the downtown area and is placed on the east side of the river.

This is an OK course, my main issue is that all the holes are right around 300 feet. So, feels like you're throwing the same discs and shots every hole. The trees do cause some variety in shot shapes and lines, but you could play this course easily with two or three discs.
