Stark contrast compared to the other two!

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 23, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

While the other 2 courses at The Fort are treed and have tight lines and are relatively flat, this course offers a more open experience sans a few holes but with lots of nice up and down hill throws. Some of these are listed as par 3 holes but the elevation change really challenges you to throw at a angle or land flat combined with a good amount of distance makes these feel like par 4 holes anyway.

The course feels more rugged and even less taken care of than the short course but the baskets are in great shape, so are the tee pads and even though there are no next tee signs, navigation wasn't difficult at all.

A few nice downhill throws with some distance though I wouldn't say any of them challenge the gold tee number 16 at The Long Fort. These were really fun throws and add in the surrounding mountains as your view this was a fun course to play and a nice change from the other courses nearby.

Looks like this course gets very little play as we had the course to ourselves both times we play it, once on a Saturday afternoon and once on a Thursday afternoon.

Cons:

Lack of obstacles is my biggest con, even though the elevation helps, most of these holes are wide open. Some of the distances felt a little like tweener holes, not quite par 3 but not quite par 4 either at least for high amateurs and pro players.

There was litter all over the ground at just about every tee box. Someone in our group posited that this piece of land could have been a former landfill which makes some sense though I don't know.

Very few landmarks here and some spots with some knee to thigh high grass which makes locating your disc quite difficult and searching and losing for discs more possible. The last thing I wanna do on a hilly course is walk up and down looking for a disc that I thought was right in the fairway and easy to find.

Other Thoughts:

Overall I liked the different feel of this course compared with the others onsite. Apparently (A local told me this) they combine this 10 hole course with the 9 of the short course down the hill to make a 19 hole tournament course when they put on tourneys, seems like an interesting round for sure. If you've ever walked up and played the gold pad for #3 on the Long Fort, this course is just over the hill from that tee pad. I could see playing 10 holes here than walking over to hole 3 and continuing your round on the long course too. Can't say enough good things about The Fort and the city of Ogden, it's a must stop if you're anywhere near.
