Introductory course for the camp crowd. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice new baskets. The small amount of land was used to its maximum.

You can rent discs. $5 and when you return the discs you get $3 back.

8 x 10 maps and score cards are provided for the round

The course increases exposure of the sport to an area that has very little to offer. This is the closest course to Letchworth State Park (Voted the #1 park in the USA)

$2 per person per 18 holes. This sounds like a con, but many private campgrounds only permit their guests to play. The owner gladly welcomes visitors as long as they sign a waiver and follow campground rules. I was allowed to warm up as much as I wanted and play safari holes before starting my round.

Cons:

2 baskets were pulled. The owner realized the fairways were unplayable and removed the baskets before people tried to play through. You now play from hole 6 to basket 8 an make up 2 holes at the end of the round.

Very little challenge for an experienced player.

No real permanent tees or tee signs, just large wooden markers. Some holes had toe boards.

Hole 2 played over the driveway into the place, although it is not a busy enough drive to be a major safety concern.

Hole 3 had no fairway. It plays along the main road, but the willow tree has grown right over the tee area. This would be a quick fix, but there is currently branches directly in front of the tee.

Other Thoughts:

This course was not designed to compete with the Rochester courses. The course is there to give the campers something new and interesting to do. If you are in the Letchworth area, bring some family members here to play. This is a great introductory course and even have rental discs if you find yourself at Letchworth park and did not bring your bag.

Hours were 10am-8pm when I played.

Pros:

-Super beginner friendly

-Tees are marked with numbered posts. Easy to navigate with course map.

-Camp store has drinks and food.

Cons:

-Incomplete: Hole 7 has not been installed due to wet conditions.

-Course plays alongside Route 408. Noise is an issue.

-Hole 2 plays across the main enterance to the campground.

-Not challenging for intermediate/advanced players.

Other Thoughts:

Course currently consists of 8 very short holes in an open field. Great for first-timers/beginners, intermediate/advanced players can reach almost every hole with a putter. If you are heading to a course further south such as Swain or Twin Creeks, this one is good to stretch your legs, throw a few warmup shots, and add to your course count.

Camp store should consider selling/renting golf discs in the future for campers. None are currently available.

In speaking with the owner of the campground, it would seem that the course is intended to add an amenity for campers on site. The design is what it is, and the owners seem completely content with it. Experienced players looking to birdie-collect will enjoy a round here. Ones looking for a challenging round will be forced to look elsewhere.
