The Travis White park course in El Paso takes advantage of some surprisingly rolling terrain, that actually gives you a scenic vista to the west from the top of the park at hole 2's tee pad. Recreational to Intermediate hole distances incorporate some clever use of gaps through the lightly wooded areas of the park to force lines on holes 1, 3, and the green way up the hill on 8. But mainly, for an area of the country with a lot of flat desert, the course designers here did a great job of incorporating the elevations to make for some fun disc golf.

You may be challenged deciding just how firm to throw over the ridge on 2, ...or by the frequent breezes, ...or how much the thinner air (4000' above sea level) shortens your attempt to throw the uphillers on the final four holes. I'm guessing proficient locals aren't challenged by the course excessively, so they laid out a longer 'back nine' second loop, and have marked several 'alternate' shots, for challenge and variety. In all, throwing from these large, level, trapezoidal concrete tees to the decent DisCatcher baskets is going to appeal to all players from beginner to intermediate.

There is a little bit of challenge in navigation here for the first time player, since there is no above ground signage, and some intended tees incorporate the sidewalks. I saw some paver stone signage for alternate layouts, and numeral plates OR paint for holes 3, 4, 6, and 8, playing the layout I found over on that 'other app' (copied their map, and added the hole details I played over here to dgcr). Using a map, the flow was reasonable, except where I couldn't even find a tee for hole 5. My only 'complaint' in the design was the number of times the intended throw did fly over a concrete paved sidewalk (path left of the basket on 2, and blind over the ridge, then actually crossing a path on 3, 4, 5 & 8).

I was happy to find a quick, fun Christmas Eve morning round while in town overnight, at a course with hole distances in my wheelhouse, and a design I could enjoy as I get close to my 400th course. Thanks El Paso DG folks!

There are tee's for 18 holes, but I think this plays better as a 9 hole course. There are tee pads where the sidewalks were not used. Good use of the few tree's and elevation in the park. However, some of the holes come a little too close to other park users in my opinion.

I did enjoy the round as it is not a typical desert course.

Would I play here again? Well, it is very close to Lionel Forti Park which is a better all around course. But if you are looking to practice or wanted to play alone, this is the course for you.
