A Nice Walk Around The Park drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 9, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Old city park with plenty of oak trees. Accessible metro location.
-You can see your car while on the front 9.

-Years ago they blocked the road from going all the way through the park.

-Putting basket near Hole #1.

Cons:

-No facilities or water.
-Dirt tee pads (as of Nov '22), some are loose and sandy.
-* # 18 tee flags are missing.*
-Lots of ants, some stickers.

-This place has been a regular parking stop for dudes in their cars, if you know what I mean, constantly driving through and backing in, it's quite annoying. However, I like to think that your car is less likely to get broken into with this traffic going on.

-Some old baskets.
-Not many fun air shots.
-Potential for some conflict ( picnic benches ).
-Dangerous wilderness fence on front 9.
-Dangerous overgrown creek and wilderness on back 9.

Other Thoughts:

I appreciate this new course and the efforts put into it. The old baskets probably helped to keep the cost down and get this done.

For me as an Am, it's a practice course for controlled low power shots. Not many spike hyzers for me here.

I don't know if they have concrete tee boxes planned. I would like a pro to tweek some of the placements before they do.

The baskets are set already, but I feel # 1 basket is too close to the wilderness fence for a 335' hole throwing right at it.

# 2 fairway will be dangerous with north winds. I played it with gusty south winds and I was careful on the drive. You're going to have people climbing the archery fence on these two.

# 3 fairway runs right along the fence up to the basket. There is a hole in the fence here, but it's a true overgrown wilderness.

This is USDGC danger, not fun for Ams or newbies. Same goes for # 14 and # 15, very narrow and treacherous (although practically unavoidable on these two).

# 16 could be run at if the basket were a bit further from the creek.

This course plays long because of low ceilings, many tree trunks, slopes, and wind. If they put in tee boxes these holes can be more fun. For now if I'm practicing alone I move to safe areas with better footing.

# 18 might be fun if the tee flags get replaced. It looks to have multiple routes.

Favorite holes: # 2 (if tee pushed away from fence), # 5 (air), # 17 (it's cool going up the closed road), and # 18 (haven't played it yet).

I think they used to have trouble out here before they closed the road but I'm not sure.

This seems like an alternative to Woodson Park, where it is hard to get into and out. This was more quiet from outside elements. Areas near holes 13 & 14 could certainly attract tents but I saw none.
