Pros:

I was glad to see a new 9-hole course installed on TTU's campus to replace the one that had existed for a short time in a nearby area. It is set in a far corner of Tech's campus behind the baseball field and intramural fields. Being away from everything, there is no danger of hitting pedestrians as is the case on some college courses. Plenty of parking as it is not really walking distance from the main campus- and it appeared that no parking tag was required.

This version of the course mostly plays in open fields and then around an athletic building. It somewhat uses the wooded area for a couple of holes (note: the wooded area is where the course used to be). There is some elevation on several holes used effectively.

I had no trouble navigating with the nice tee signs that exist and the high quality baskets are easily visible. One of the strengths here is the amount of distance variety.

Cons:

Natural tees. Lack of obstacles on most holes. Hole 5 (which was my favorite as far as design and interest) will likely be marshy or have standing water for much of the year.

Plays on a corner bordering two roads, so really errant drives on 3 and 4 could bring the road/moving cars in play.

The athletic building will likely be hit a lot by drives on hole 6 and 7. This building is one of the few obstacles and it makes these holes much tighter than the rest, but I am not a big fan of buildings as obstacles.

Other Thoughts:

I thought the original campus course was more interesting and slightly better, but this version is not horrible. Most of the holes are wide open shots that are forgiving to throws that lack accuracy making it a good place for college students to learn the game, to practice, and to do a fun, free outdoor activity in between classes.

Recommendation- OK course for the college students and those who live nearby, but not a course you would travel long distances to play.
