Union Heights Elementary School DGC 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 9, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Union Heights Elementary School has this 9 Hole disc golf course on the school grounds. It's a fun course to take a bunch of putters out to and throw (for the average player) but if you are looking for a challenging course to play, this is definitely not it. Every singe hole is an ace run for most players of all skill levels. Even beginners have a chance at getting their first ace here. There are short "tees" and long "tees" for each of the 9 holes so technically you could loop the school twice and play 18 holds with a different tee each time. The problem is, there are only bricks in the ground that show the "tee area" and over the years, most of these bricks have become non-visible but there are tee signs placed next to the longer tees. Like I mentioned earlier this course is actually pretty fun if you just take some putters out and loop around the course several times, but don't expect a challenge. Definitely a good short course to practice your approach game on. If you want to see this course on video, check out my crew playing this course in the video below...

Cons:

The short tee pads are basically impossible to find. Local's usually play the short tees from "around here". If there is a basketball game or some sort of school function going on, forget about it. No way to play this course in that case as there will be cars everywhere around the school grounds and sometimes directly in front of or beside baskets.

Nurse's Nightmare 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 31, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course at Union Creek Elementary plays around the circumference of the school, starting and ending near the back parking lot.

The course has a large color map kiosk at the beginning of the course.

Each of the holes had a tee sign with a nice little map and a creative name, most having to do with the school mascot, the tornado.

Tee areas were flat, grassy areas and all of the baskets were nice Innova Discatchers.

The holes were all nice ace runs for more advanced player, and completely fair for young children who play during school hours.

A round here can take as little as 15 minutes, even less if you particularly hustle, losing a disc is practically impossible, and navigation is so intuitive, even a Kindergartener could figure it out.

Cons:

To start, this isn't a championship course by any means, not even a good course. All the holes are 'probably' under 300 feet, and there are not many obstacles to contend with for the most part.

The pavers in the ground were not always easy to spot on the ground, as they were covered in a little dirt, or underneath some overgrown grass. Most of the tees were quite close to the tee sign.

The main reason for this getting as low of a score as it did, there are an abundant amount of safety issues. When school is in session, the holes get in the way of other activities, such as holes that play over/around the playground, near a major roadway, over a pavillion, near the building, etc.

The next tees are usaully within the 10 meter circle of the prior basket, which, if there were kids playing the course, could lead to some discs hitting children.

While the course is closed to outsiders during school hours, if kids are playing this course in large groups, safety will be an issue. Holes play close together, as well as near areas that could get dangerous if a disc were to travel there.

Other Thoughts:

While this course is great to bring new players into the sport of disc golf, the amount of safety hazards are enough for concern. This should serve as a teaching moment for course etiquette, waiting your turn, and being as careful as possible.

I am really happy that more schools are putting baskets/courses onto their campuses, but there should be more safety guidelines put into place. With a few lessons, I'm sure this can get a few younger kids hooked on the sport of disc golf!

FUN LITTLE DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 14, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Fun place to play. Just bring your Mid and Putter or just your Putter for a fun 20 minutes. Short, easy with a few holes that will make you think. Easy to get around clearly marked.

Cons:

No pads but does have bricks in the ground for both short and long. Can't play during school so come after 3:15 or on the weekend

Other Thoughts:

Real fun little DGC. If you are coming to Morristown to play our other three great DGC then stop by and try for an ace!
