A Baggers’ One and Done

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 8, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Kudos to the church community for installing a clean, simple, nine-hole course in a friendly location. The course is fairly clearly marked with all nine baskets being easily visible from the back parking area between the church and the fields. Starting at the back left corner by the wood line, you'll find two simple and clearly delineated posts, with the plain (Intermediate) tees marked with a hole number, but also a shorter (Recreational) tee post that is red. These will line you up to the new, white, highly visible baskets that catch very well, and with most still having a visible number flag on them (or nearby on the ground, depending on the wind).

Cons:

Tees are turf, the ground is flat (and sometimes marshy), and there are no obstacles between the tree line to your left on hole one, and the finishing hole nine, and they even avoided getting near the pond on hole six, so, while you'll never lose a disc here, you'll probably not find your fun, either.

Speaking of hole nine, it plays incongruously between the parking lot and the huge shelter building. Personally, I can see why they put his hole here to add an element of challenge, but assuming the only folks who will play here would be newcomers to the sport, the hole is just asking for hit cars or 'civilians'.

Hole distances are actually a little on the longer side if this was intended as an introductory course, and other than ranging distances and judging the wind, Intermediates and above probably won't want to play here more than once, as there is no challenge.

Other Thoughts:

In all, I'm happy a new course is in play, and thank the folks who put it in, but other than bagging a course, and perhaps meeting the nice folks here, this one won't pop up on many folk's 'must play' lists (which isn't all bad, because they didn't build this for us). Head over to Echo Valley for one of Ohio's best!
