Drainage Ditch Course At The Fairgrounds Doesn’t Appear To Receive Much Play! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 12, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Versailles DGC which is located at the fairgrounds and doubles as a city park starts right beside the tennis courts. There is a slightly worn spot here. A concrete drainage ditch runs through most of the course. Today, when I managed to avoid the canal, there was only about a 1/2 inch of water trickling through. I'm sure if the ditch had been running 3 feet high with a torrent of white water, I would launched several discs into a watery grave.

# 1 plays 290' straight ahead with the drainage ditch on your right. # 's 2 and 3 either cross or play along the ditch. # 4 stays away from the ditch but then # 5, which an actual tee pad crosses the ditch. # 6 starts you back and the ditch is now on your right. Then # 7 is an easy toss across to a basket, maybe 275'. For # 8, you are throwing directly at the Golden Arches off in the distance. The basket is about 350, the Golden Arches maybe 2000' away in case you're in the mood for a Quarter Pounder w/cheese.

# 9 then hyzers around the barn about 275.

Cons:

Navigation would be a little sketchy without the on-line map.

Only one tee pad. No signage.

Drainage ditch is in play on a few holes.

I'm sure the course is shut down for the fair. Heck, the course might be shut down for most everything.

Only nine holes. None are too challenging or exciting.

Other Thoughts:

The course at Versailles has been around since 2012 and only received 3 ratings and has only had 18 members play it. And surprise! No-one has made it a favorite. You might be able to conclude from this data that the old fairgrounds course here is NOT a destination action course! Nor does it suffer the degradation of being popular.

Pros:

easy to find, nice baskets, nice little small town coarse, very flat with a few natural obstacles, lots of out of bounds in the form of man made concrete creeks...very enjoyable easy coarse

Cons:

no hole markers or maps, grass and gravel tees, its a city park so the human obstacles are ever present ( to be expected just about anywhere) no elevation changes, it seems like it is always been windy when we have played it..

Other Thoughts:

I like to see smaller towns getting in involved in disc golf..its a young coarse and with any luck and a little interest the coarse could be very nice.

Rural Course 2+ years drive by

Pros:

It's always nice to see new courses pop up in remote areas. This one has nice baskets and level ground.

Cons:

The park was busy and it was difficult to determine where to start and where to go next. There are no signs at this stage of development.

Other Thoughts:

If your in the area, free play and practice is available. This is a fun course in the making. I hope local resources will be able to give it some TLC and finishing touches.

Small Town Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 22, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Disc golf in a town under 2500 people. Nice enough baskets. Fairly easy to find your way around considering there are no tee signs or map. Bathroom at the park.

Cons:

No tee signs or map. No benches or trashcans. Hole 3 and Hole 7 play across each others fairways. No real obsticals to force you to play around.

Other Thoughts:

I thought this was a pretty nice course for such a small town. In a bigger city I would have given it a worse rating, but it's just nice to see disc golf popping up everywhere. The crossing fairways would bother me more if I thought the course was going to be packed, but I was the only one at the whole park. There was 15-20 mph winds when I played, it made the course much more challenging and therefore enjoyable. If I lived in Versailles I would be stoked they put this course in. I wouldn't go far out of your way for this one, but if you live close or you are driving down highway 5 it's worth the stop. It's 60 seconds off hwy 5 and took me 45 minutes to play through.
