A lot of usable property, nice dynamic baskets, elevation changes, water carries, great signage to the next tee.

Grass was high throughout the first five holes, and pretty terrible with the following back 9 holes, having a hole designed to throw over water where people are fishing right in the path of flight, long walks between holes. Ridiculous walk between hole 5 and 6. Hole 7&8 grass was near knee high. Holes 9-16 are using the park's walking path which was traffic heavy! With a lot of poke and hope holes on the back nine. There are at least two holes you walk past the basket and throw back. Tee pads are loose gravel and uneven.

I'm happy there is a course in Hillsboro but I feel the course designer could have gotten some additional input, if none was available then I understand why some of things were done the way they were. I feel a good maintenance program and a redesign is in need. Most likely will not recommend or play again until some improvements are made.

Conditions of the course, especially holes 1-5 were very good. The park seems to be well taken care of. The baskets are great, and tee pads more than sufficient. The pars on each hole were challenging for intermediate/experienced players.

Definitely not a good course for someone wanting to get started in disc golf. A beginner would have a hard time with this course, and may get discouraged, but it doesn\'t seem like a course geared towards newer players. The walk from hole 5 to 6 is a pretty big turn off. I\'m sure there were constraints when designing the course, but I feel even with the space allotted, a better design could\'ve been done to make the course flow better. Only played it once, and I don\'t believe it is worth another visit considering the 40 minute drive it took to get there. If this course was local to me, I could see myself playing it from time to time. I gave it a 3/5 based on the conditions of the course.

-Master Class Design. I'm not a course designer so this probably doesn't mean much from me but I though that the holes were just so well designed. I did everything there today. Elevation change forehand, my best distance chucks, high hyzer fore and backhands to get over and around things, over water, under trees, down tight woods lines, over creeks, into the tallest poled basket I've seen haha. What a variety!
-Fair Pars. Birdies definitly feel earned. Even the less than 200 footer is no gimme at all! But I never thought that the pars were unfair.
-Challenging. With the variety comes the challenge. Each and every hole had me thinking. It usually wasn't just "chuck it fair and straight" for the first two shots of every hole.
-So Clean and New. Since this course is brand new it of course was immaculate during my play through. Those dynamic disc baskets are so cool. I love the tray design. Also, it was crazy that it doesn't seem like too awful much more needs done! Definitely a tournament ready course.
-Worth the hour and half drive. I would probably drive up to 3 maybe even 4 hours just to play this course. It was that fun and good for me.

-Few Long Transitions. That dreaded walk down the road haha. Was not expecting it at all especially after a long transition from I think 3 to 4 maybe. Easily the most in between holes I've ever walked at a course by a good margin. At least it felt like that mainly because of the two long ones.
-Lumpy ground. Something about the ground maybe just being frozen but some parts of the fairways were so hard to walk on. My wife's feet were killing her after.
-Debris. There was a few holes that had piles of stuff that looked like maybe they belonged to the city.
-Walking bike path. The course messes with the path for a few holes but it's pretty easy to watch for potential pedestrians.

Hats off to all the people and the community that came together to put this absolute gem of a course in Hillsboro. It's going to see so much traffic as the years go on the sport grows. Awesome work!

This new course is the first in Hillsboro itself, and the local disc golf community is rightfully proud of having built a competition worthy track with an unexpected amount of variety, from open bombers near the park's northern fields, to a pond crosser, to tight, technical and tree lined lanes along Clear Creek at the south end of the park. Boasting fantastic, durable signage (tee signs with the needed hole number, distance, par and sponsor, next tee arrows on every Veteran basket, green and white next tee signage where needed, a drop zone sign for the pond crosser, and plenty of disc golf caution signs) flows throughout the course, and reasonably sized (5+' x 11+'), level, and usually raised, asphalt tees aim toward the beautiful blue baskets. There's a practice basket by the disc golf parking lot near holes 1-5, and plenty of open space to warm up your arm before your round.

The holes themselves incorporate the limited elevation available, and shape in multiple directions, with at least three or four holes showing clearing for alternate lanes to the basket. You will not only get to decide if you can clear the 280'+ needed for the pond crosser (I simply tossed to the drop zone, knowing I could park my upshot from there for a three), but you will encounter many holes from 10 through 15 where you could kick off a tree and drop into the creek (risk-reward, anyone?). Even the short (160') downhill ace run 16th has marked OB painted if you go long. So don't come to the first few holes thinking it's all just a 'big arm' course. They searched the available grounds for some pretty nice, fun, challenging holes out here.

...which also means, with this vast property, there are some significant treks from one hole to the next. You will wear out some shoes between the first five holes, then wish for a golf cart to take you across the field to hole six. But then the gaps get better. Overall, the restrictions mean you will walk further between holes overall than the length of the course itself.

I did run into a park patron who walks the established hiking trail with his son and his dog. He was of two minds about the course. He understands the use of the property, and seemed excited about the community interest in the sport, but we did talk about how the holes 9 through ...14(?) often use the trail, then also about how the pond crosser throws at/over the established fishing pond, bench, and to the new shelter there. I noted there were other places (such as by the soccer field) where there are benches in the fairway. In all, there are some places where disc golfers will NEED to use caution and good judgement.

And that brings the question: is this course, designed to pose challenges for Intermediate to Advanced players, going to be what Hillsboro really needed for its first community course? I hope it goes over well, and that there's enough interest and enthusiasm to find room in town for a more beginner- and family-friendly course as well. Finally, note that the asphalt tees are freshly poured, and likely will have some final touches added to make them smoother (?).

I thought of going through this thing hole by hole, but do hope folks come to Hillsboro to enjoy it for themselves (obviously, I suggest good shoes!). Highlights and "pro tips" then: I did lay up for the pond crosser. Can you guarantee 280-320' every time? Might chance it. Hole 3 is ...weird... with the basket blind and guarded by about 20 pines in the corner of the park, giving a very tight approach and putt. I liked the dogleg right, downhill on 4, into a pretty grove (but it does blindly cross a path). 7 will be most folks' first birdie chance. 9 begins the use of the hiking path, and is just left of that pine you see in the lane. 10 & 11 begin bringing the creek into play, and 12 is 500' of that tightness! The elevated basket on 13 is fun, but don't cut in too early (left to right): creek! The next two dance along the winding creek, and there ARE stone creek-crossers if you throw the rhbh fade line on 15. 16 is a bit of a walk around the police shooting range (!), and the last two are challenging uphillers.
