Pros:
The small lake in the center of the park (and course) offer some scenic views. I came into this with excitement of wondering how they would utilize it into play.
Holes 1-3 seemed to do this well, but unless you have a good accurate throw on #3, you may wish to lay up and settle for par. The rest, 4-8, seemed short and not that challenging. I had a wind challenging me when I went but I should have had more birdies.
9 opens up for a long throw... Finally!
10 uses the lake again, but lost my Wraith in the water due to misjudging the wind.
Cons:
11-16 sseemed repetitive, with the trees around #11's basket being the only interest that kept me optimistic.
They need more trees to mature on 12-16, which would change lanes and create more of a challenge.
I'm not sure if the parks department is planning anything or not in the future.
17 gets interesting with a small pond before the basket. Honestly, I thought it was just bushes. I'm glad I over shot my drive!
18 just plays back towards the start.
Other Thoughts:
My grandparents used to live in McPherson and I grew up here during my summer vacations. I had fond memories of this park. I returned here during a visit for a family funeral and saw this course. Having always carried my bag in my car's trunk, I gave it a go.
I was hopeful of this courses potential, but walked away feeling that they could have done so much more.
I am impressed, though, that the town does have an effort to bring disc golf to the community. For that, I applaud the local effort.
This isn't a bad course, but its still a ways from great.
I hope to come back soon, see tees installed and signage. Perhaps, alternate pin locations?
Anyways, it was a nice break during my visit.
