Not what we were hoping for 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 28, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

The only real pro that I can think of if that there are baskets there. Since the area has such little in terms of DG it's at least nice that there is something.

Cons:

The layout plays uphill for all but 2 holes, albeit short holes, uphill AND 300+ft is not the kind of course a ski resort should offer as a "fun" activity in the summer.

On top of the poor layout there are no actual tee pads and most of the signs are faded/empty.

Some holes play blind, directly into the face of mountain bikers while they are whipping through the grassy slopes at mach speed.

The only 2 downhill holes are stifled by the basket being on the edge of the woods, which are filled with poison ivy, nettle, and thistle - making for a pretty bad experience for any new-comers if you were to bring any along.

Other Thoughts:

If the course is going to be so poorly laid-out and maintained they could at least not charge $5 per person.

Maybe think about using the lifts to bring golfers up a bit and have them play down on a more fair and welcoming layout.

more challenging than anticipated 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 10, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Whiteface is a typical ski resort layout with up shots and down hill challenges. Constant breeze a factor. Couple narrow shots were a bogey waiting to happen if you missed. Fun day with lots of other activity at the lodge including a live band to enjoy during play. Practice basket right by lodge. There is a sign at each tee area with distance and a diagram. Distances I give are from card unless otherwise noted.
Hole 1: Started near lift but with no discernible tee box. Downhill throw of about 300' (sign say 385' but apparently they have moved the basket away from the huge bouncy bounce). Easy 3, quite 2-able.
Hole 2. Wood chip tee box (on small side-6'x2'. All remaining holes had same tee box). Straight uphill throw of about 345'. None of our group reached it, but a good drive could produce a deuce.
Hole 3. Throw across slope to basket on right behind clump of trees - card says 313' but I say closer to 275' with opening of about 30'. Dueceable.
Hole 4. Another straight uphill shot but about 423'. Wind a factor. No deuces in our group.
Hole 5. Side shot across gully of 288'. Open and dueceable.
Hole 6. Tough shot up & through narrow opening around chair tower. 213' on card but plays much longer. Opportunity to deuce but miss opening and bogey looms.
Hole 7. Steep down hill shot of 331'. Danger on left. Too long right and you're shooting back up from tee box 1.
Hole 8. Tough hole through a narrow opening along a road/path. 246' but trouble on both sides.
Hole 9. 309' final hole down hill and to right. Miss left and you can put it on the deck or in the bar. Miss long and you can ace the practice basket.

Cons:

Disc golf obviously not a priority at Whiteface - the scorecard had not been updated, as locals we played with told of several hole revisions rendering the distances and designs deceiving. Some blind shots with bikers flying by the fairways.

Other Thoughts:

We played 2 rounds on 9 hole layout on a spectacular adk day. 2nd round we hooked up with some locals who gave us some course history. Overall, I would come back, but it is tough to choose disc golf over climbing any of the beautiful peaks that surround this course.

Its a nice start, but needs finishing 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 8, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

It sits at the base of a very important and historical Olympic mountain. The tees boxes are in decent shape, but only because they are not played often. Nice baskets and good signage make it favorable.

Cons:

It is short. Very short. And at only 9 holes, the $5 day price should be cut in half to $2.50, since, in reality it is currently only a half-course. You will also share the course with mountain bikes and nature trail hikers, so use care with your throws. The hours SUCK. Open only from 9am-4PM it makes it impossible for a weekly evening dubs or league, let alone getting in nine after work. The disc golf course is not a priority for Whtieface and course maintenance suffers as a result... but it pretty much what we have right now, so we work with it.

Other Thoughts:

This was our first ADK dg course. It is the result of a vision that several locals had for this area... however, its ties with ORDA kill this as a full featured disc golf course. This course is more of an added attraction to the Whiteface Olympic history and tourist attractions. It needs finishing, or redesigning or even, and possibly the best idea... relocating with different ties to its daily operations.

Needs upkeep 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 7, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well marked with good signage. Good baskets with boxed tee pads.

Cons:

Too short. Only nine baskets with only one set of tees.
Tee boxes have not been kept up. Need to get nine more in.

Other Thoughts:

For $5 you should see something better. The layout should be re-thought. #1 and #9 seem to be too close to where people could be walking.

:P 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The course is at the base of Whiteface which offers a scenic setting.

Cons:

The course is VERY short. If you are a good driver you can land the disc by the basket on just about every hole.
With the exception of a few holes, each basket is a straight shot from the tee.
Gondola operators seemed peeved they had discs flying through their area.
They charge $5 per round.

Other Thoughts:

If you decide to play there you are better off choosing your own basket to throw to from each tee for a little more challenge.
