Hidden gem - shortish drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 5, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

Brand new baskets and tee pads. The course was recently cut in. The park is in great shape, everything is mowed. It's hard to lose a disc out there. 5 or 6 Ace runs as well as five or six that are a little tougher, and then five that are really tough to birdie.

Cons:

Shortish could bother some people.

Other Thoughts:

It is in the middle of nowhere but if you're within an hour this course you need to play it.

A Work in progress

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 17, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Baskets OK
-Good mix of open, technical shots
-Tees are marked nicely with stakes and a sign (see cons)
-Quiet park with campground and lake
-No other DG in area
-Park upkeep is good

Cons:

-Grass tees (Upgrade proposed)
-Signage is just print of UDisc map of hole (Upgrade proposed)
-Disc loss very possible in tall grass and/or water carries
-#17 is a beast at 627'

Other Thoughts:

Wilson Country park hosts a complete, but work in progress DGC south of the town of Lenox, IA. The park wraps around a small man-made lake with camping on the north side and some playground equipment and a couple of shelters on the south side. The course mostly utilizes this south half with #11-#14 wrapping up in the NW corner of the park. The course uses the "fingers" of lake for a few water carries (#1, #4, #5, #9, #14). I played in mid-June with some very tall grasses close to the lake. The grasses and water carries could spell disc loss danger here. This is playable, but a work in progress as there is look for more permanent tees, signage and baskets. There is also design for a short set of tees at most holes. That would make it more accessible for the novice players. Right now, the grass and the water make it at least an intermediate course. Potential is here to make more of a destination course, which by its locale, it would need to be as it is way off the beaten path. Add concrete tees, "red" tees, good signage, and good baskets, this is a 4.0 course. A great start, I hope the vision comes to fruition. A bit out of the way, but especially with upgrades, I would play again.
