Sadly, Textbook Chicago Suburbs

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 8, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

- brand new Dynamic Discs baskets in great shape
- navigation is very straightforward
- has a practice basket
- park is generally well maintained and mowed

Cons:

- rudimentary tee posts with hole number, par, distance
- natural tees, some of which are uneven
- plays into retention areas of park so can be wet
- multi-use park shares disc golf space with some other activities
- some safety hazards with walking paths, soccer fields, etc.
- could be hard to play course when soccer games are going on
- course is almost entirely flat
- course is very wide open with limited obstacles
- no real technical challenge or forced shot shaping
- not much in the way of amenities
- not much hole length variety, with most between 200-250 ft

Other Thoughts:

I'm not sure there's a whole lot to say here - unfortunately, this is another fairly dull suburban Chicago course. Sometimes it feels like every municipality (except my hometown, go figure) feels the need to say "well, we put a 9 hole disc golf course in." Often these have very little thought put into the design. This course checks that box. It is almost entirely flat, and while it does have a few tree obstacles in isolated places, there are very few challenges here to make it anything other than a wide open course.

The park is generally in good shape and the course is very playable assuming other activities aren't getting in the way, so I gave it a 1.5 instead of just a 1, but even that may be pushing it a bit. The baskets are brand new and nice, but the tees have no maps and the tees are natural. There's not much to get excited about here. Since it's so open, wind can definitely be a factor.

Hole 9 has dual tees so there is a little flexibility in play depending on your skill level, but the long tee really just adds a bit of distance; still completely wide open. Since the retention area was incorporated on holes 1 and 2, it can get very wet in this area. There is parking available, and while this course is kind of in a park within a subdivision, I didn't feel like I was invading the subdivision quite as much as some courses.

Surprisingly, despite all of this there was a practice basket for this course. Other amenities were pretty limited. There are a couple of holes in the 250 - 350 ft range, but otherwise most were 200 - 250 ft. You could probably get by with your fairway driver or lower here.

Oh yeah - yet another course with "creek" in the name where the creek is nonexistent. We seem to want to pretend the scenery is more impressive than it really is.

Overall, this course is pretty vanilla. It at least flowed pretty well and looped back to the parking lot, but there was nothing inspiring whatsoever. This is yet another Chicago area course to bag if you're bagging them all, but I see no reason to venture here otherwise.
