This is my first year playing disc golf and until this year I really didn't know how big this sport is. Can someone actually make money from playing this game or is it completely recreational?

Small money can be made. Ken Climo who has won twelve championships, is probably the only player who makes a really comfortable living b/c he does clinics and such. The biggest tournament in the game, the USDGC, has a prize of around 11,000 or 12,000 dollars I believe.

Millions and millions of dollars.

True that. This is my winnings just from playing league.

Those with the ability to win in open on a national level and tour heavily make about 40k from events- however, not even dave and nikko make it to all ( a dozen I belive ) majors.

It also should bear mentioning that some degree of a pro player's reported "winnings" constitutes money they came to a tourney with. If one pays a $100 entry fee and walks out with $350, they really only made $250.

Umm, all good sponsorships pay entry fees and at least part of the transportation and room costs.

Pro I know, if he won, his sponsor would match his prize, they always paid the entrance fee. Travel etc was all on him. That was a few years back, not sure what they do now. I think he made more on league and ace pools around the area, and those don't show up as "earnings" he also sold plastic and played for money.. not a great living by any means, between that and working with me he got by.

I think the entry fee part is true, but I pretty much 0 pros get rooms, and i'm pretty sure they pay transportation on their own.

Nikko has talked about it,and regardless of whatever loyalties he might have to gateway,I think if Innova stepped up and said they'd help pay for transportation and rooms,he'd do it regardless.
