2012 Goals

My major goals for 2012:

650 courses played and reviewed. (currently 532)
45 states played. (currently 38)
10 travel tag swaps. (8 so far in 2011)
Improve putting consistency inside the circle. (currently not so much)
PDGA rating over 950. (currently 931)

2011 was a good year, broke 350', started playing tourneys (ended up playing 5), and shot my first rounds over 920. Looking to really make a leap by the end of next summer.

-Win a tournament in Int
-Get my rating above 900
-Shoot a round above 950
-Break 400' BH, drive 350' consistently
-Put it next to the pin from 100' consistently
-Finally get that ace
-Shoot -9 at my home course (9-hole)
-Knock a few more states (and possibly countries) off the list

typo? Or the normal thread drift with big distance claims?

No I actually can throw far..and have witnesses for that one..i never said I could throw that consistently I just said I could throw that far and want to be able to throw further..its not a claim its a fact sorry if the internet has impaired your trust for people

Nice job then. Having hit over 700' puts you in the top .1% of all disc golfers and only two years too. You should go to Big D in the Desert this next year. I'd love to see how you're able to pull it off.

If I had the funds I would totally do it but since thats farther than the money I make will allow me to travel looks like ill never have that chance

No one said anything about being forced to do anything. I know my opinion doesn't matter, but I just think if you are placing in the top 10 or 20 at worlds, it is time to step aside and let someone else have a shot. Keeping your AM status for the sole reason of winning tournaments is sandbagging. I also understand that NC has a ton of talent, and the divisions are tough, but isn't that the point of competition.

I see your point but if you are an Amateur player and your goal is to win Am Worlds then it's not sandbagging if you finished in the top 10 and want to win it. If his player rating allows him to stay in that division it's not sandbagging. It's being the best at that level.

It makes no sense to me to play and practice for years to become one of the top players in your division and just when your getting ready to compete against the best for the top spot you walk away to start at the bottom of a higher division.

Now if a player is not playing his best every tourney to keep his rating low so he can stay in the division then that's another story.

I see nothing wrong with wanting to be the #1 player in a division. Besides it puts a huge target on your back when there are a lot of hungry players looking to take your spot.

2012 Goals:

Play in a tournament in the rec division for the first time
Drive ~300 feet BH and FH
Enlarge my "gimme" putt circle to 15'

Definitely interested. Let me know when it's about to start

The preseason event is March 24th. I will likely be making a recruiting push around January so people have time to mark their calendars. As we only meet once a month as a whole league, a commitment to attendance is vital to having fun. I will send you a PM soon with more info.

My DG goals for 2012:

Dont drink until after the round.
Increase my "confidence zone" to outside the putting circle.
Drive a putter further than 300.
Perfect "rolling" to a science.

~Play More!: Having started a new career within the last year, I've found myself playing alot less. It goes without saying what more rounds per week would do for all aspects of my game.

~Get Involved: Although I already participate in the club's ladder tag challenge, participate in tournaments, and volunteer on course work days, I would like to dabble in organizing and running events.

~Travel: Simply increase my course count.

~Discus Feminis: I would like to motivate the wife to get out and play more.

- I'm still trying to play that first bogey free round.
- Finish in the money in the Wednesday night league
- Play at least 6 new courses.
- Play more sanctioned events and finally get a rating.
- Improve my putting

Goals for 2012:
Start playing Tourneys again, which is dependent on meeting these goals:
1-Hit my intended line 90% of the time (somewhat aggressive, don't you think?)
2-Extend my comfort zone (90+%) for putting out to 25'
3-2 throws (or less) 200' and in

Secondary, more nebulous goals:
Improve my overhand to reliability
Improve my LHFH for reliability out to 150'
Improve my anhyzer approaches to reliability

First, there is no ratings cap on the advanced division. So he is playing within the rules. I get that. I also get wanting to be the #1 player in the division.

I guess it will be a huge accomplishment beating the other 2 or 3 other guys that are rated >990 to become the AM world champ. It is such a high honor. Only fools would be competeing against all the golfers in the open division that are of a similar rating, or better. He can play smaller tournaments as a pro, possibly win those, but turn down cash. This way he can avoid all the guys with similar ratings in the big tournaments, so he looks like a stud when he wins. It's too bad Nikko has taken cash. He could be the 13x AM World Champ.....way more respect there then winning non-world titles as a pro.

While I am being sarcastic as hell, I do get where you are coming from. I know he is well within his right, and the rules to continue playing as an AM. But, I guarantee that I won't be the only one calling him a bagger, and thinking he is avoiding competing against guys that are of similar skill. I'm sure it doesn't sound like it, but I don't mean any disrespect as he is obviously a great golfer. I just think it is pretty weak to take 4th in the World Championship, 2nd at the CAC, be >990 rated, and continue to compete against AMs. Sack up and move up.

With the latest ratings update out, I feel as though I can look forward and set my goals for next year, so here they are:

1 - Shoot a 1020 rated round
2 - Shoot a 1000 tournament
3 - Get my rating over 980
5 - Be confident from 40'
6 - Place in the top 3 in Pro
7 - Top 30 in Oregon - Pro
8 - Top 800 in World - Pro
9 - Play in the USDGC

Goals for 2012, HHmmm

1. Spend more money on tournaments than discs.
2. Spend less money on shipping than discs.
3. Win my first Int. and maintain top 10 for all tournaments.
4. Push past 400' on a flat line.
5. Get my kids playing DG, not just throwing plastic around.
6. 10+ sanctioned events.

1. Play in some more European Countries
2. Get at least one more ace
3. Have a rating of > 900
4. Become a gold medal reviewer

My goal is stand at one goal post and throw a disc through the uprights of the other goal post 2 out of 10 trials (if it goes in the soccer goal instead I will count it :))
