[Question] Most hated disc ever...other than the Groove

Impact, I never saw so much hate for a disc once disc golfers used the disc more, they found the disc's crosshatching causes the mold to get little bits of dirt and stuff in them. I do have that as a minor problem but then I do clean disc at home if they get a bunch of dirt/mud on them. Also in the 2000's when players thought max weight was the best, they got that for this mold and anything past 175 grams the mold is missing the glide, anything under 168 grams and the mold gets pushed by the wind so beginners who got a lightweight Impact hate it. this is why 170-172 grams and 173-174 grams were the only weight sets that people liked.

I found a brand new Groove once. Called the guy and he told me I could just have it. Boy did I understand why. It was good for one thing, immediate 90 degree turns to no where. I lost it, still looked for it just to save someone else from that curse.

Someone still throws Grooves..... quite a few of them in fact. I keep finding them at courses.

I assume its guys who buy random discs at Dicks. They must have no clue about different molds and such. They just pick the Groove because of its name.

Groove

I play with a guy who carries one. He only throws thumbers and tomahawks with it.

He says he uses the Groove because he hates it so much, that it makes him feel like he's getting his anger out on it.

I guess they're good for shots over water hazards. That way you don't care at all if you toss a disc in the lake.

Everyone beats on Grooves like a red headed stepchild, but nobody seems to hate on Star Monarchs, which are money. And grooved.

Because Monarchs can be made consistent they are almost the same run to run, a faster Road runner flight, players either like the grove in the Monarch or hate the groove in the Monarch. I felt two different Grove discs in a Gas Station in 2014 Selling from Gotta Go Gotta Throw company in Winnona Minnesota near the two in town courses, the two Champion Groves one had the Grove distance gap and the other had the Monarch width gap as well as flashing in the grove that would never come out unless somehow one could sand out the flashing. There is a Star Grove so I have been told on here that was not bad and made consistent enough that some select small band of players do seek out the oop plastic for the disc mold.

I still hold outside the Grove disc in hate is the Foxbat, Wolf, how US they are for how slow the molds are you can't put power on the molds at all or they flip off to the right and just keep going almost 90 degrees off original line if any power more then a putting putter is putted at 25 feet and in for a arc style floating putt. Last is the Impact more due to only specific 170-172 grams as well as the 173-174 grams worked to get the flight Discraft showed also to match the glide as well as the Hatchmarks trapping dirt in them on the rim.

I do not know why I did not think of this disc still made by Innova in limited production quantity, The Commander. I threw one, what is an OS flex S type shot good for? The type of shot is where the Commander disc is flying to the left OS like while doing an S shape flex shot in the left flight. you almost have to make a scenario to use the disc on a course.

This has got to be the most hated disc outside the Grove.

Monarch is either liked or hated, no in between, my brother is one of the few who liked/loved it for its premium plastic Road Runner flight but hated how the mold would not do ground rollers unlike the Road Runner.

Quick question...If Innova made Champion Dragons, would you try one?

I was sorting through discs the other day and found my old dusty Dragon, and it got me thinking. I know the selling point of the Dragon is that it floats, and Champion plastic would kill that, but I think I'd give one a try if Innova shot some different plastic into that mold.

I know a few people who swear by the Commander, I quite like the disc too. It's sorta the overstable cousin of the Skeeter IMO, itself an underrated disc.

My vote goes to the Falchion or one of the weird Gateway molds. I've never heard anything good about those. Or a Star Destroyer being the most loved and hated mold.

I know they made Blizzard Wahoos, so maybe a Blizzard Dragon so it still floats?

They made a Regular Champion Dragon in limited run that did not float and what people found out was it is just a tiny tick less distance Valkyrie, from the comment so the plastic for that mold was not made again. What I would try is the Stiff R-Pro same Stuff used for the Whaoo and see if I can make a slightly heavier Dragon that floats. Blizzard Champion is just junk.

Or a Stiff/Driver R-Pro for the Dragon so it can be a tick heavier by about 5 grams the way the new R-Pro Hydra are 174-175 grams and still float he way the old DX 170 gram discs did. The weight is the Issue for the Dragon, 150 grams a disc and they use stiffer R-Pro For the Whaoo and it floats. that air pressed DX stinks and R-Pro is about the same thing only more durable then that Air pressed DX the Dragon is made of.

The Pop topped Gators, at least 95% of people hated those OS Star Pop topped discs. The only ones that did not, ended up with those for a very OS high glide approach disc. A disc more OS then a Cayman at 4|4|1 or 2| 5 Something that OS is not good for much except approach but the dome made the mold have too much glide.

Wind speeds of more then 20 mph takes a 150 gram Dragon if you do not hyzer the disc at a ~15-20 degree angle and increase that by 5 degrees for every 10 mph. So then 20-25 for 30 mph and so on.

Bold: I agree 100% the Skeeter is an underrated disc. Makes for an amazing approach disc though is in line with a few other brands putters/Comet so if you you use those other molds for your US approach disc, then both discs overlap big time.
