2013 USDGC

I took a peek at the distance qualifiers towards the end yesterday. 5 qualifying throws per person, top 4 qualifiers go into the final distance exhibition at the end of the tournament.

575ft was the shortest distance that qualified. Surprisingly that distance was set by Big Jerm. Schusterick and Nikko didn't make the qualifier maxing out at about 565ft. Simon Lizotte had the longest qualifying throw at roughly 660ft (I forgot exact number) throwing his DD2s.

David Wiggins Jr. also qualified, but his longest throw was after his 5 qualifying throws. He threw 765ft.

Conditions were mostly calm yesterday with maybe a 5mph breeze during the afternoon. The field they were all throwing on was pretty flat.

Where are the pro ladies? I didn't see any in the tee times.

This event is pro men only.

The women's national championship was a few weeks ago in Portland.

Same reason there are no masters - their championship was in May.

I'm guessing this is wrong.

If a woman played in a qualifier (in MPO), or Monday qualifying, and put up a qualifying score, I'm guessing she would be in.

Correct, but they wouldn't be in a seperate division.

Climo, Schweberger, Baldwin, Brown and Schultz all play Masters in majors but are playing Open this week because they have to. It's the exact same concept.

Hopefully sarcasm, but there are no smileys.

The USDGC OPEN Flight is just that...OPEN TO ALL. There are no age or gender restrictions. There are plenty of Masters playing in the Open flight.

There is at least one woman playing in the PF this year. Plenty of women were invited to play in the 2013 PF, including me.

FYI, the event is called the United States Women's Disc Golf Championships or USWDGC, not Women's Nationals. :D

Technically, the Open Flight is open to any qualifier, regardless of division:

A total of five (5) spots will be awarded at each regional qualifying event. The top five overall scores will earn an invitation to compete. Other divisions may be eligible to qualify if they are competing during identical days and on the same course layout(s) as the Open Division. The decision to allow other divisions to compete for qualifying spots is at the discretion of the tournament director. [source: 2013-USDGC-Qualifying-Information-1.4.131.pdf

however, practically speaking, owing to the high level of competition in MPO at regional qualifiers, it is highly unlikely that anyone competing in a division other than MPO would earn an invitation.

Division, age, and gender are irrelevant to the Performance Flight.

It's not just the USDGC. The PDGA's Men's Pro Open is not actually restricted to only men. Nor is it restricted to only Pros. It's Open to all.

Not trying to start a huge argument over divisions.

But MPO is the division being played in - even the performance side - and that stands for Male Pro Open.

Take a look back. Val has played in the USDGC a few times.

The problem, MTL, appears to be your (lack of) precision of language. In your first post about this, you didn't mention, or imply, anything about divisions.

If you're going to be hasty and sloppy with your posts, you shouldn't get all defensive and argumentative when people call you out for posting incorrect/misleading information.

wow, this thread took a nasty turn. For the record, i see nothing mentioned about division at all. it is shown as 2 flights: Open and Performance. There is never a mention of gender, age, or anything else. Even in the description of how to qulaify:
"The top five overall scores will earn an invitation to compete. Other divisions may be eligible to qualify if they are competing during identical days and on the same course layout(s) as the Open Division."
"All current, dues-paid members of the Professional Disc Golf Association are eligible to qualify for the 2013 USDGC"

So any conversation that mentions women or men isnt factual from what i read on the usdgc site.

On topic:

I think McBeth pulls it off. But if he doesn't i'll go with the other safe picks, Will or Ricky.

Though in Terry's video, Nikko said he'd been there for 2 weeks warming up. And sounds to have his head on right. talking about keeping himself out of his own head. Step one to fixing those head issues, is accepting you have them, and working on them.

And among the people that qualified was Juho Parviainen from Oulu, Finland! His throw was 594'. Awesome to see our local cannon-arm to make it into the showcase :)
