What to use for better grip

You peeps that work with your hands, do you not wear gloves? I do, almost always if I have some labor to do, saves my hands. I've found the key is to get quality gloves that actually fit snug/well with some sort of grippy underside.

Sometimes. Have 40# and 100# batteries to move around. Wear gloves for that. The daily mundane hand tools, no. Small amounts of time, but frequent use. Chopping vegetation away from equipment with machete, probably yes. Climbing ladder, no. Depends.

But, I guess I could slather the lotion and use gloves. Worth considering. Especially if I picked up some of those nice mechanics gloves, instead of jersey or leather work gloves. Hmmm.

I have chronic dry hands. I either use a Friction Glove, which are very good, or do the Holly Finley "blow on the disc" to get some moisture going.

I assume Whale Sac's are for the opposite issue - moist hands?

I actually have worn, dry hands.
For me I lay down the base layer of Gold Bond medicated hand cream.

That base layer seems to cause the natural ridges & whorls in my hand to plump up, giving me much better grip, but then the hand cream is just a little slick even when rubbed in well, so I use the whale sac.

The whale sac causes my hand to get tacky.

The dust from the whale sac won't adhere to my hands without first using the hand cream. I can't get the tacky grip without using both parts.

That allows me to go from flat, worn, dry hands to a textured, tacky grip, not unlike what I naturally had as a younger man.

Now, If I could just find something to do to my knees, back and shoulders to help then be more like when I was a younger man, lol.

Yeah, I do wear work gloves most of the time when doing work that can cut or bang up my hands

But over the last few years my hands have lost a lot of the natural pad and texture. I think in my case it's just a symptom of the age (or maybe more accurately the mileage).

My hands sweat. I carry hand towels, but they don't dry my hand enough. A little dirt or wood chips was my first move.

Recently got a chalk bag and put it in a zip lock I keep in my pocket. A quick pinch of the bag and maybe a towel wipe and I'm good to go.

One of my buddies has the opposite problem—as some said, grip issues are individual. What works for me may be terrible for you.

I think plastic plays a part as well. There are some plastics that deal with moisture much better.

Same here, clammy sweaty hands no matter what time of year or temp. I burn through birdie bags pretty frequently. Just got a chalk ball and bag off Amazon, same kind rock climbers use. Pretty cheap, given you can buy a bucket of this stuff at a time. Haven't busted it out yet I'm still burning through my last birdie bag, those aren't cheap at 10 bucks a pop and I churn through them every couple months or so if I don't lose it first.

I actually really wanted the chalk bag because I'm pressed on storage as it is on my cart and it will almost guarantee I won't lose my chalk. I know from experience if it ain't tied down I'm bound to eventually lose it. Have heard good things about chalk so fingers crossed it works well.

I kept a Whale Sac on a carabiner clip. When playing, I would clip it to a belt loop. Well, one day the knot came lose and I had the clip, but no Whale Sac. Bought a new one and a short time later saw someone with a Whale Sac that looked like mine. Yep, he had found mine, tied it to a carabiner and had it clipped to a belt loop. He's still using it. I've moved on to chalk and it's been working better.

One thing about chalk....it builds up on the disc. I wet one end of a towel and wipe the chalk off with the wet part and dry with the other end. I'm thinking about carrying a small washcloth as my 'wet towel' and then I don't have a towel half wet, half dry.

What chalk for diy? I made a chalk bag early on with, literally, my kids' sidewalk chalk broken up. Maybe weightlifting or gymnastics chalk is better.

I don't know about DIY chalk. I got my chalk bag from a local disc golf store, but Infinite Disc's also sells them. The ones I've seen are $10.00.

I use a birdie bag for sweat and only competitive rounds... personally I keep an eye out for broom bushes, it's an invasive weed and if I pull one or two or just rub my throwing hand down it I can pick up a small amount of sap. You don't want to get "pitched" but a little is ok.

I have sortkwik in my bag but only need it on colder days when my hands feel dry and slick.

Here's what I've been using:

In the summertime, I wear a wristband to prevent the sweat that rolls down my arm from getting to my hand. Really helps.
In the wintertime, I put away my Z and Proton plastic discs (I only throw Michigan manufactured discs) and throw ESP & Neutron only. The grip is much better in the colder weather.

You should be the Made in Michigan disc golf spokesman!!:clap::clap:

Today my daughter said her glasses were slipping off her nose and asked my wife to put some more Nerd Wax on them. Tat's a $10 chap stick tube of excellent finger grip.

I've never seen a product advertised for this specific purpose until now. DG Max Wax.

I started this same thread some 10 years ago. Tried a few various things, but never found a magic solution, I might have to give this beeswax thing a try. I'm always down to support a small dg company.

Nice! A beeswax mini to aid grip!

Thread from 10 years ago didn't get much traction https://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33035

Yep. I'm still liking the candle wax.

Sounds like different issues at play, but I'm thinking of sticking a candle in the bag!

You can buy those chalk balls for less than 10 bucks on Amazon. Try it out, if you like it then get yourself a chalk bag for 20 bucks that you can use to hold it in strapped to your bag/cart, and for around 20 to 30 bucks you can buy a huge bucket of chalk to refill your chalk ball that will last for years I'd imagine.
