Was thinking about picking up a Star SL. I've noticed its not mentioned very often in this forum. Was wondering what folks thought about it. Thanks.

I never threw an SL before ast week...I bought a star SL...it seems to be more touchy than I expected...this makes it great for control shots but it really is delicate to any OAT or release issues I have. I find all of the L discs to be this way though. The TL way more unpreductable than the Tee Bird. I was hoping the SL would perform a miracle for me...but as always its more a problem with me than the disc. I have not thrown it in an open course yet..I am thinking this is where the added understability will garner me the best results.

I personally don't find it usefull. Its a decent disc for my gf in the wind but it acts overstable for her :/

most of the L discs aren't fun (besides TL)

I have one at 164g. It was very straight when new and turns over a little after it is beat in. Just like it is rated. It's all in the name. If the SL had a cooler name, more people would buy it.

I think I have a lemon...mine is ridiculously overstable. I threw it overhand for a few months to try and beat it in but it flies nothing like rated.

My sister got me one for Christmas this year! She asked what kind and I told her a Star SL cause i figured i could get the "disc that was going to stop world hunger" for free. LMAO (you know.....the one you THINK will be it....?)ANYHOO.... I found it more overstable than I thought it would be brand new. I'm in the process of breaking it in now. The heavier weights are more overstable to begin with. mine is 174. To sum things up, True about the overstability, and most important... NOT gonna stop world hunger for me......Maybe a Katana will

I havent thrown one myself, only the Pro SL. They are the tits new, and beat in to incredible useful awesomeness. I wouldnt call them 'ridiculously overstable' - after throwing my 11x FB for a while, nothing will ever seem overstable in comparison :)

I imagine a Star SL would be nice new but probably beat in to a nice straight/turnover driver. It depends on what you are buying it for. If you want it for some turn, buy Pro. It costs way less and breaks in faster. If you want it for stable shots, buy a champ starfire. It is also cheaper and will stay stable for much longer.

Oh yea, just in case you dont know Pro Starfire=Pro SL.

Was my favorite driver for quite a while. Has a nice turn and is in my opinion an accurate and fairly straight (fades back about the same amount it turns, not frozen rope straight) and not even the shortest driver available. I do prefer the Pro Starfire (which is also an SL mold), grippier and has better glide.

I've since gone fully Discmania, but if I used Innova I'd probably have an SL in my bag.

I love the SL I use it for my control driver and I can keep it pretty well pin pointed even around 350-375ft. I have four in my bag that are different weights and the one I have had the longest is starting to get broken in a little and will turn over for me on the longer throws. I am able to keep my on a straight lazer line.

My 164 was awesome for a while until it started turning too much and not coming back so I bought a 174 and it started flattening out but I forgot about it on the fairway after throwing it so I never got to properly break it in. Not sure if I really wanna buy another one.

Good for long straight control shots with NO wind. Some people tend to think it is overstable and I would contend that it is more stable to understable. I have one that rotates in and out of my bag depending on the course and the wind. It doesn't see much use and I tend to feel that I only carry it as a bag filler.

very str8 disc in my opinion. can get touchy in lighter weights or as it ages, but that makes for a great control disc....like others have mentioned.

Here's my take on it. The thing is that it's kind of nose angle sensitive yet flippy. So you're either throwing it well enough that it's not horribly predictable or you're not throwing it well enough and it's hard to control. There is a niche of people in the 320'-350' plateau who aren't looking to improve who happen to want that specific stability and are good enough to control it.

I have a bud that throws one. If there's any bit of wind blowing, the disc is toast. The disc is easily overpowered as well. If you're throwing 350 +, I wouldn't get an SL.

Go with an FL. I threw one of those for a while. It's less touchy and more stable than the SL and when shaping shots, the flight isn't horribly overexagerated by the slightest bit of wind.

:)

I have tried both the Star and Pro Stafire versions. This mold does not suit me at all. Never could throw the same line with it.

It is overstable for shorter throwers.
Not predictable enough for stronger throwers.
Personally, I have several and have not found a suitable use for them yet.

The SL is like going to the grocery store and seeing someone who recognizes you and says HI, yet you can't place them. He mentions something about high school. It bothers you that you can't place his face, so you go home and pull out an old yearbook. Sure enough, the dude was in your class, yet you still can't recall ever knowing him. That is the SL...Just another face in the crowd not worth remembering.
