New Ohio Courses

Churchill Park in Liberty OH (suburb of Youngstown) is on board to build a course. Here is the link to the thread I posted in the Courses in Development forum: Churchill Park

Pretty simple explanation. There's no Lat/Long under the course info.
How do you get the latitude and longitude? Also, how can you get a google maps image so I can post a picture of where we're looking to install this course.

i was just up at punderson yesterday and it looks like that are doing big things up there!

here is some clearing they are doing by hole #3

i also stopped by hudson and was completely impressed with the new back 9. it looks like it took hundreds of volunteer hours to make those fantastic new holes.

On google maps you can zoom in to any location, right click, and choose "What's Here?". Then the coordinates should pop up in the search bar.

N I see from your other thread that you figured out how to get the screen shot images.

Did you play them? There's 3 new holes and theyre all amazing additions to the course.

oh, i didn't know they were cleared enough to play them... from a distance it looked like they were still under to heavy of a construction to be played.

i look forward to my next trip out there and i'll be sure to get a closer look then!

man...I must have missed a notification somewhere that this thread had been updated, I'm way behind!

I'm glad you liked the new holes at Hudson, Brall, I'm not sure how many hours it took, but Eric C lead the charge and I think he has a log somewhere that he was keeping. We are doing a fund raiser tourney on the 16th to raise funds to start putting in new tee pads for the locations that we are confident will remain in their current locations.

I played portage lakes again over the weekend. You can tell people are putting a ton of work into this course, but I have to wonder why they are concentrating their efforts where they are. It just feels too raw for me, even though its been getting decent traffic for awhile now. They rough is just too rough, and the shule that was cleared out is just being piled up on the sides, and vines are growing through it. I wonder if this is the long term plan, and if this course will be a forever on going high maintenance project. I love the lay out, (aside form some fairways that are too close) its challenging and high risk reward, and even has a couple true par 4's. Hole 9 is a true par 5, but still feels very cheap.

I am very unimpressed with wadsworth, Ive been following that courses development for well over a year and really more than unimpressed I should say that I'm really disappointed with the course design. I'm fine with short challenging holes, but 100 foot holes are too short, and especially when there are multiples of them, and it doesn't appear that there is room for long tees. My biggest complaint is that one hole uses a walking path for a fairway, and another plays through a swing set. I just dont understand the thought process in these designs. I'm hoping someone steps in and redesigns this, its a great park. Looking at the land I see a lot of potential, but, I dont know what has been ok'd to use or not, so maybe this was the best they could do.

I played Arbo-Spiker quite a bit over the last couple weeks including the Hall of Chains tourney. I really like the new basket positions. While many of them are longer, I actually feel like they reward accuracy over length, where as the old positions were much easier to park if you had the arm, and if you didn't have the distance, you were going for 3s. the course is still pretty open off of most of the tees, but now many the baskets are well protected, especially the gauntlet of 3, 4, &5.

I'll leave it at that, Ive already posted too much :)

just to add to my comments on portage lakes, I really do like the course, even though it probably sounds like I don't. I know its been a huge project cutting into such mature and dense growth. It can just be a bit frustrating when we spent quite a bit of time looking for discs that were just slightly off target.

Is this a new course, extinct course, or one not added to DGCR? I saw on Facebook that there is an Ace Race in Sunbury, OH, so I think this would be it!

We have raised enough money to buy two baskets and we have a local bar interested in hole sponsorship. It looks like we will have a 3 hole loop in Churchill Park in Youngstown Ohio. This should be in the ground before winter hits, followed by the remaining 15 holes lol.

just added Lakeview DGC

talked to the designers at Hole 8 Disc Golf Shop and received permission to add it to this site. it's great to have a new course in the area. this course is brand new and has possible future plans on extending another 9 holes into the woods.

thx to the awesomely hard working dg clubs in our area!

Not sure if there is another course in Sunbury, but that one is a fun short course if you've never tried it.
Also... while it is not a new course, the Sycamore Creek Church course is almost done adding 9 more holes to this awesome short course (mostly awesome cuz I live 5 minutes away)

Ended up figuring that out about ten minutes after I posted lol thanks! Please post here when Sycamore Creek is done adding holes, I love that course!!

Will do. As of yesterday the new baskets are in and posts are up but no new signs yet. Do you play Simsbury? I live here in Picktown so those 2 are my 'home' courses

(temporary) signs are up for the new holes at Sycamore Creek Church course! They have added a couple of 420-510 holes to help balance out the mostly short ones. New holes are mostly in an open field, but are a few really nice holes over creeks, through gaps and among some giant pine trees. If you know the course and like it (or settle for it in a pinch because you live close) these new additions are an awesome welcome addition. If you have never played it you'll find it's not really worth the time unless you are just stopping on your way to Simsbury (Pickerington DGC) I love it because it is only 5 minutes from my house. Just played it in the mud and muck with my son.... awesome start to the holiday weekend.

Just added Churchill Park to the list! It's listed as temporary for now, using the tournament layout we've been playing on.

Yes, I know this is a really old thread. but it was a very good thread also, and I have some great news!

Earlier in this thread I had posted about Hudson Springs getting new holes and posted when this was completed.

Now, thanks to Summit DGA, Hudson Springs now has the new holes, new (temporary) tee signs, and NEW 4x12 CONCRETE TEE PADS!

We read the reviews, heard the complaints, and over the last couple years have tried to address them all. We moved away from the walking path, added a practice basket, made the course more challenging, cleaned up the tee signs, and got the new tee pads.

If you're looking for a time to check out Hudson, the first league random doubles round on the new pads is Tuesday the 28th at 6pm. C'mon out!

Whitehall (suburb of Columbus) is supposed to open a 9-hole sometime around Labor day. I've heard that they have the space to add 9 more if things work out.
