How I judge a course: 1) Fun to play 2) Challenging 3) Land Use 4) Aesthetic appeal 5) Flow/Shot Mix
Rating System:
1 disc for Fun
1 disc for Challenge
1 disc for Land Use (best possible course for available land)
0.5 disc for Amenities (Trash Cans!!!!/Bathrooms/Water/Benches/etc.)
0.5 disc for Flow
0.5 disc for Teepads (dirt/cement/rubber doesnt matter just consistency and well-maintained)
0.5 disc for Tee Signs (Distance must be marked!)
Bonus 0.5 disc for Aesthetic appeal
Definitions:
"Challenge" - Technical, Variety, Demanding A challenging course has several aspects. 1) Shot Variety; I do not like to make repetitive shots. If I play 3 holes in a row and feel as though I didn't have to throw anything different... thats bad. My choices for lines from the tee. A mixture of choice and defined is preferred. 2) Technical; this is mostly about the fairways and gaps. I like moderatly to not forgiving fairways on the majority of the course. But a couple of wider fairways in the first couple of holes and the last hole is always appreciated. Gives you a couple a throws to warm up and then lets you have that last chance at glory. 3) If a course isn't challenging then I walked off feeling as though I made all the right choices for time through and even if I didn't it was so easy it didn't matter. The best course leave you wondering what you should have thrown or what would happen if you took this line. Its what makes you want to go back and master the course.
