For a whopping $7, it makes sense to order these and keep a couple in your cart so your prepared whenever, wherever.

I just stop open and closing mine and just leave it in a fixed position and remove the entire pole for transportation.

I wouldn't say it is a common problem at least it hasn't been for me but everyone's mileage will differ
But not a bad thing to have some around for when any piece that gets stressed regularly eventually gives out. Plus, now you can bail out four other people in your town who have a cart
