This will be my only post on this thread.
I'd like to give a big thank you for all that have supported me, those that contributed, and those that have sent positive words my way.
I understood that when I chose the Tiki Course at the Blockhouse that I was going to have a lot of negative response from the "putt-putt" esque course that I chose for the attempt. But put simply enough, it
is best course for this record. The holes are short, and they are lit up for night golf. But, I also chose the course because it has a lot of challenging aspects, and kept me mentally engaged much longer than the previous course I played, as well as the courses chosen in the past. This course is much more wooded and has a lot more elevation than the courses chosen in the past. Put quite simply, I was not engaged in playing disc golf after 8 hours of the attempt last time, and this course kept me in touch through almost 20 hours.
Take holes 4, and 16 for example:
Hole 4 is an uphill extreme dog leg left protected by a net as well as trees blocking it. I either had to throw a precisely put high hyzer, or throw an anhyzer flick missing one tree slightly to the right, and coming in a gap at a ridiculous angle to play the hole correctly.
Hole 16 is a downhill shot that is completely enclosed for 90 feet straight down, with a 7 foot gap to hit at the end of the tunnel to throw to the basket. It took a perfectly thrown shot to even get to the basket for a two. Towards the end I actually resorted to just throwing a forehand roller, because I did not want to deal with hitting early and taking 3 after 3 on the hole.
This course was 39% of the distance of the course that I played last time, and yet it was much, much more challenging. It made the attempt much more fun.
I threw a total of 6,098 times, coming down to 4.24 throws per minute, playing 2.01 holes per minute. That is including all the walks between holes, all bathroom breaks, all resting breaks, all of my food consumption, water consumption, changing of clothes and shoes, and any other issues we had with documentation.
I ran the first 14.5 hours (jogging the holes and walking the in-between), stopping 2 rounds after I had surpassed 1,929. I also dealt with intense knee pain from 7 hours on. I had been battling issues with my IT band all summer, and was hoping I would be fine in the attempt, but I wasn't going to let it ruin this attempt, so I took aspirin every 4 hours, and dealt with it.
In McFlySoHigh's Video, you see me sit down to hug my girlfriend after I had broken the record. Aside from 2 extremely brief bathroom breaks, that was the
first time I had sat down. In the next 9.5 hours, I sat down twice more to change my shoes and to rest, accumulating a total of approximately 25 minutes sitting down during the attempt.
We measured the course with the wheel, including all walks between holes and from 18's basket to hole 1, totaling 2,517 feet. That is approximately .475 miles minimum per round. I then took the GPS function on my phone and measured myself during 10 rounds of play. I dropped the high and the low score, and averaged the rest. It came out to an average of .53 miles per round, as I wasn't traveling in the shortest distance to the hole each round, so my aggregate distance came to 85 miles, all on my feet.
Nobody seems to be addressing this - in my first attempt, I reached 1,310 holes, on a course that has an average over 200 feet per hole, traveling 78 miles (8 on bike) in the attempt. The ratio of time spent running to time spent playing disc golf was much higher (as I spent much more time running/walking than playing disc golf) on that course than it was on Tiki. Therefore, it was going to be much tougher to eclipse the aggregate distance I did on the Isla Vista Peace Course than I did here...yet I ended up playing 85 miles of disc golf for the attempt, 15 more miles on my feet than the last. If I recall, I don't think any other attempt, aside from my two attempts have reached 70 miles, and yet I am still being criticized for Tiki.
Lastly, it really pains me that some people are still responding negatively to this attempt. I used this as a fundraiser to raise money for the victims of a horrendous shooting that occurred at my school, and to raise awareness for the issue of gun violence on school campuses at America. I dedicated this attempt to the six classmates that I lost this past Spring, and yet you are still posting negative things about this attempt, saying that it's bogus, and the course is stupid and belittles this record. You are absolutely entitled to your own opinion, but I think it's rather pathetic that you have the need to publicly display this distaste, even though it's for such a good cause. Is that really necessary?
Here is my statistical breakdown for the event, I know a lot of you are curious about the numbers, as was I, so I tried to do my best to include as many aspects as I can.
Please, if you feel the need to contact me at all, have any questions, etc. I would be happy to answer whatever, or talk to anyone. You can PM me here, or email me at
