NateDiscFlip's thread about wanting to showdown with guys got me thinking. We used to have a thread where everybody rated their own game. Well, I can't find it, soooo here's another one.

Scale:
1 - complete and utter n00b.
2 - I've been discgolfing before, but I called it frolfing
3 - Still terrible, but I'm making an effort to get better.
4 - Hey, somebody's been practicing, but still not that good at it.
5 - So, so. Sometimes it looks like I know what I'm doing, sometimes not.
6 - Somebody's been practicing, and it sort of shows now.
7 - Not too shabby, usually competent but sucking still looms close in the rear-view mirror.
8 - Seasoned DG'er, usually good if not decent results, occasional whoops.
9 - Steady as a Roc, almost never sucking. Almost.
10 - Climo-like, you nearly go into shock if your shot is off.

Let's see.

I would have to say, overall, I am in transition from 7 to 8. Close but on certain occasions I still wish I had a chainsaw.

Approaches/upshots: 9 (see mid-range)
Getting out of trouble/rough: 6
Backhand skill: 6 (can still get into OAT trouble. reason for 7 in driving)
Forehand skill: 6
Overhand skill: 4 (very accurate but not much distance)

Midrange/upshots are my bread and butter. Still getting better with driving/putting, and they are both very streaky still.

I need more practice. Overall, I'd say I'm consistently inconsistent, although I've gotten better, especially with my backhand driving, both in accuracy and distance.

This is in relation to where I want to be. For a guy who has played for under two years I am thrilled, but I want to make sure to keep diversifying. I thought I figured out some forehand this weekend but then I three 3 holes in league wednesday and my elbow hurt. I need to diversify my shots.

Pffffft. I'll summarize as follows:

A few weeks ago I felt like a 6.37...I had my chit together...yeah, tight like that. Yesterday was a reality check and I feel like if I gave myself a 3, I'd owe somebody some change.

Mid-range (fairway navigation): 8
Approaches/upshots: 7
Getting out of trouble/rough: 8
Backhand skill: 9

Overhand skill: <--Very seldom throw OH

Overall- I feel like I could get really good if I would just be consistent (play more), practice, and be better from inside of 100'.

Oh fun!

6 Driving
5 Putting
7 Mid-range (fairway navigation)
8 Approaches/upshots
4 Getting out of trouble/rough
4 Backhand skill
8 Forehand skill
4 Overhand skill
3 Rollers
7 *Special Ability* Level headedness, cool under pressure
---
52/100 :/

I wanted to make it an even 10 things,
so I added "Rollers" because they're cool and
"*Special Ability*" because we all have that one little thing that sets apart from the crowd,
that is our own special, secret strength that pulls us ahead.
What is yours and how good are you at it?

When I am occasionally hitting my longer putts(30-50) and banging my shorter putts I feel like I can play at any course with most players...as can many of us.

The more I play, I would say drives are helpful-8, accurate approach is necessary-6, and nearly perfect putting from 20 out is priceless-6.

Fortunately, I can make most shots off the tee and difficult approaches...now doing them everytime is the trick.

Oh Yeah!

+2 to all abilities vs. BrotherDave

Driving: 7.5 (I throw 420' but accuracy is just starting to get consistent)
Putting: 5 (I show flashes of goodness, but I desperately need a practice basket)
Mid-range (fairway navigation): 6 (meh, I'm decent with me Comets)
Approaches/upshots: 7 (recently got a LOT better)
Getting out of trouble/rough: 5 (courses I play don't give me enough practice)
Backhand skill: 8
Forehand skill: 2
Overhand skill: 5

Those were all 3-4 at the beginning of the summer. I've done a TON of field practice (hence good off the tee) but my short game is lagging way behind. Just more goals for next year.

This thread is not about pointers, but if you are looking to be accurate with forehand from atleast short range, then just concentrate on a quick hand snap and nothing else. With a brisk snap and desirable angle you can turn that 1 to a 5 in like a week. Good shot to have for a useless type of player:D Get good at this shot with and make your buddies mouths drop. Nothing like hitting a 100 foot putt with a side arm!

As for driving with a side arm-2 and dropping

i just use a sidearm so little that i never work on it. i work the overhand shot pretty well, and can use it as a replacement. i can use it to escape too, as i can thread it through trees in its first 150-200 feet of flight. plus, i can't throw forehand with the left arm at all. it will take me ages to develop a technique for throwing forehand with the left (LHBH dominant player, only other thing i do with my left hand is write), the disc has to be leaving the right side of my body or its just not going to happen. its the same with every other sport, football, baseball, basketball, all right hand dominant with the action happening from the right side of the body.

when i'm still trying to develop a powerful BHLH shot, i dont see the point in working in a RHFH shot because they will do mostly the same thing, and i can already do a fair amount of things with my valks and avenger SS's at long range
