South Carolina Courses

Thanks for the replies. I thought so. No problem here doing Socastee once again but always like trying new courses out: example- from PA and just tried out Muddy Run near Lancaster for the 1st time last Sat. Holy crap!- what a beast and what a beautiful course!

Today is the first day of having all 18 holes installed at Golden Grove Farm and Brew. It's been about three years in the making, with a few hiccups along the way. It's currently about 7500', par 63 from the blue tees, 6300' par 63 from the whites. 3 holes around a lake, 15 holes through dense pine forest with some stands of old growth oak/poplar/sweetgum. There will still be some more tweaks, and a good bit of further improvement (better tees, stump removal). Still looking at longer tees on hole 7, 9 (turn it into a par 4), and 17.
On the private land of a microbrewery, but open to the public. Play a round, have a few beers, play another round.

Chauga Rapids at Chau Ram Park in Westminster, in the NW corner of the state is open for business. The park is still doing a little bit of ongoing construction, but the course is open. For now you'll have to drive into the main park entrance and take a walk to get to the course. Eventually they will open a disc golf specific parking area with a different entrance point. Entrance to the park is $2 per car.

I haven't been out to the course in over a year, but I enjoyed walking it. I think it similar to Richmond Hill but I'll probably end up liking it better.

Also my pet project, Golden Grove, has been improving rapidly over the last couple of months. We got a forestry mulcher out to remove the remaining stumps from the entire course. You could play soccer on some of these fairways now. Aaron has constantly been working on tee pads. Hole 9 blue has been pushed back to a challenging figure-8 par 4.

Just returned from a week vacationing in Surfside Beach, SC. Played Socastee as we usually do. Still a fantastic course but the fairways were full of enormous puddles from the previous day of rain.
Got to play Splinter City DGC for the first time (last in the area in 2019 and the course wasn't built yet). Fantastic new course. No elevation and a lot of noticeable garbage off to the sides of some fairways but I just loved the layout and the flow of our rounds as we played it three times last week!.
Stopped in at the new disc golf store in the area as well - The Teddy Peddler, just off Rt. 17 in Myrtle Beach not far from Splinter City.
Great to see this disc golf wasteland start to grow a bit.

There's a fun little 9-holer on Pawley's Island that I got turned onto a few weeks ago when I was in the area for a week.

We didn't make it to Socastee, which I've played a few times. But I agree about Splinter City, and we also stopped in the Teddy Peddler. Lots of cool stuff in that store, and all the people I met in it, as well as at Splinter, are A-OK in my book. Myrtle Beach disc golf is in some good hands, seems like.

Walhalla HS got a 10 hole course installed. Eagle Scout project by Kallsen Wright.

Pickens HS got an 8 hole PE loop installed. Very simple and basic. Good for PE classes.
Currently in the process of installing a more advanced course around the perimeter of the property. It'll include 2 of the PE holes but 16 distinct holes in the woods. First 4 holes are installed and can be played in a 12-hole loop with the PE holes. The rest of the holes won't really be playable until they're all done (no loops or convenient take-out points - just a long string of holes running around the property). Hopefully playable by the end of winter.

Hagood Mill has its back 9 holes marked and ready to cut. Currently it's a 9-hole course. After hole 6, there will be 9 more holes in the woods, meeting back up with current hole 7 / future hole 16. Three of the wooded holes are already playable (13-14-15) but require a little backtracking to play them. No tee pads on those holes yet.

Bryan Schaupp is working on a project near Seneca that could be extremely cool. Private property with multiple courses, pro shop, etc.

Church in Powdersville has installed a 19-hole course, called Orchard Hill.

Liberty High School now has an 18 hole course. The project was spearheaded by Isaac Esuary for his Eagle Scout Project in the fall of 2023.

4750', par 55, one set of tees/baskets. Plays a loop around the property, lots of woods and elevation. Minimal interference from roads, parking lots, sports fields, etc that is common with a lot of high school courses. Course is open and available for play. Tee signs are being installed in Dec, but otherwise everything else is in great shape.

Liberty is halfway between Easley and Central, and this course sits nicely in an underserved section of the map. Courses in Powdersville, Dacusville, Easley, Pickens, Liberty, Central, and Clemson really give a nice distribution along the hwy 123 corridor.

As of now I'm going into the winter without a new course build on my plate. First time in a few years I've had this experience. Maybe I'll actually follow through on my perpetual promises to get some real upkeep work done on some existing courses. So busy building new ones that some existing ones have fallen by the wayside a little bit.
