This thread is for commentary for the "PF Chains DG Club", to serve the Potosi/Farmington area in park maintenance & improvement, to make the Disc Golfing experience in the area of the highest quality and enjoyment possible, and to offer tournaments and organization for the disc golf community.

After playing a number of years in Texarkana, AR and Mobile, AL, I was without this wonderful game for years. Within the last 2 years, 2 quality 18 basket disc golf courses has appeared within 30 miles of the area.

We will not take this for granted.

Within days of the Engler Page being up, I noticed someone else has already played the course. Potosi has been up over a year, and only 2 other people than myself have played the course in that time.

My intention at first was to create a DG Club solely for Farmington, since Engler is the course I plan on playing the majority of the time. But after playing at Potosi for a year, and never once seeing another disc golfer playing the course at the same time I was, lets me know that this quality, brand new, disc golf course will go down quick if something is not done to support it. That is why I am wanting to make both courses part of the DGC. I believe if we do some maintenance and hold a few tournaments a year there, the community will see progress, and as people see the game played, perhaps a community will grow from the area. Nonetheless, it will not take much to keep a quality, 18 hole DGC in our close area in great condition.

Now, with Engler up and running, there is the immediate issues that all DG Courses go through. 1 - Signs, there are none. 2 - Pads, brings quality to the game, 3 - Drainage problems, the lake overflows to 6 & 7. There are other spots where walkways can be created, but there, a walkway would be no good, when at least the majority of the #6 fairway is under water, 4 - Scorecards - Need to create some, 5 - Get rid of the thorn bushes in the course, and 6 - Relation to the community. I do not want to have problems with the park officials, and work with them in every way possible. I want to express a good first impression, and then back up the impression with real effort. Once we have a reputation for excellence, we will have favor to do some of the things we like to do, and earn their trust to exercise our own judgement on issues.

Potosi City Park also needs 1 - Signs, 2 - Pads, Need of Bridges to get across the creek in 2 places (#10 and #12), 3 - Open walkway through the fence for passage from #15 to #16. 4 - Scorecards, 5 - Relation with community as well.

So, as you see, we have our work cut out for us.

Earlier this year I had the good fortune to play Deer Lakes DGC in PA. It is the best course I had ever seen, and is a top 10 course here on Disc Golf Course Review. It made me realize what it is wee need to shoot for. Tomorrow, if it be possible, I will stop at Flyboy Aviation tomorrow. It is "really out of the way", but I want to see the #1 course in the world. Maybe I can catch some ideas on how to improve the DG experience when I get home.

I do not believe Engler or Potosi City Park have the potential to be on the Deer Lakes level simply because of the land difference, and natural resources of the natural layout. Still I think #17 in Engler can become a famous hole with the island pin position, and Potosi has #8 that is beautiful, and a great risk/reward hole. I believe these courses can be solid "4's" with good care, and quality items, aka not cheap signs and cheap pads. I believe Course Designer David Mac has some ideas up his sleeve that could make these courses better than what even I expect.

Still, we have our work cut out for us. Once I get home in March, I will immediately hold a tournament, and try to get the community together, if it has not already started to get together. I know there are some quality DGers in the area, so good times are ahead folks! :D

Ok, I did not know you needed a appointment and a escort to play Flyboy.

hmmm :|

Yeah dude. It's like a real golf course, except less money and better service. You should check out White Oak if you are going as far as Flyboy. It's a public course that's pretty nice, except the signs and tees suck.

I like your clubs name. Where are you at, Stud Muffin? I'm not too far from ATL maybe we can get a round in.

Flyboy responded, but I was too soon on them. I didn't get to play. Actually, I wonder, because it took me forever to get through Atlanta anyways today.

berdawg, had I seen the post, i would have met up. My phone is still in the stone ages, and does not operate the internet very well, so I never check DGCR with it.

Ok, it is Springtime, and there are two 18 basket courses with signs in the area, Potosi City Park and Engler.

I want to start a disc golf club, get some weekly leagues going for both courses, and start having some serious fun!!!

I know the JC Sharpshooters play on Thursday Evenings at Jokerest, and Sunday Mornings at West City, and some of our locals probably play in those leagues, especially since they are PDGA Leagues.

So first, I just want to get a group of people who are truly interested in a league, and then start setting up some days of the week to play.

Anyone here at DGCR?
