Pros:
- Baskets
- Some holes have teepads
- Besides the missing basket on #3 the course was easy to follow
- Free course, free parking
- Outhouses on location
- Located next to big fields for practicing disc golf
Cons:
- Lots of vandalism, trash, and broken bottles on the fairway/course
- The teepads are dangerously close to a few of the prior baskets
- No teepads on some holes, the ones that that are built are uneven.
- No tee signs with map or distances
- Basket 3 has been missing for a month
- Hole 1, 4 & 9 don't really have a path through the fairway
- Located very close to community recreation path
- Hole 6's fairway is a paved recreation path
- No flags or color on baskets
Other Thoughts:
Alcantra is a short course, but it's not necessarily a beginner friendly course. Most of the holes either have teepads in dangerous spots or have players tee of too close to the recreation path. I almost got hit in the head on teepad of hole #2 by the group teeing off on the teepad of hole #1. It's like that on a few other holes too, so watch out. It's not the kind of course that you'd need a full bag for, I used putters for just about every throw. The fairways are full of skinny birch trees and the ground is covered by protruding roots. The lack of fairway paths combined with the roots sticking out of the ground add some difficulty/luck to a relatively simple course. This course this rewards players that have solid fundamentals.
This is my first time revisiting the course since it was first established. I was very happy to find that there actually are baskets there this time, but disappointed #3 was missing. I had to ask someone where basket #3 was, they told me it was likely stolen a month ago. The course itself is located just outside of Larson elementary school, in a park that connects to a local suburb via paved walking trail.
I was surprised how much traffic moves through the Alcantra course. There were players on the course every time I went visited, regardless of the time or day of the week. Unfortunately, the extra traffic has led to a lot of vandalism in and around the surrounding park area. Basically, it's a sheltered hot spot for criminal activity that's tucked away just off a main road. There were garbage cans overflowing with cans, trash on the fairways, and broken bottles around a few baskets.
To briefly sum it all up I'd say this course is technical, short, crowded, rundown, with a missing hole and a dangerous layout.
