Diamond in the Rough 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 30, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Varied course design: great mix of elevation changes, tight tunnels, open bombers
- Rarely busy as the casuals stay at Bowen
- Dogs can go off-leash (and there will often be people there just to walk their dogs)
- Natural terrain and flora

Cons:

- Not cart friendly
- Blind teeshots can have you searching for discs (night play is much easier)
- Errant shots or bad tree kicks can have you in digging through blackberry bushes
- Fairways of 16-18 are very wet due to runoff
- Teepads are rough ground and can be uneven

Other Thoughts:

If you need mowed fairways to find your disc, play elsewhere. If you like rough, natural courses this one is fantastic. The course design makes great use of the many elevation changes, and has lots of fun & challenging holes. 16 in particular is a massive downhill teeshot with a nice view.

My favorite course in the area. It could be even better with proper teepads, signage & some of the worst bush cleared out. I've heard it can be almost unplayable in the spring/summer when the vegetation is at its peak, but during the 'winter' here it's definitely worth checking out.

Fantasic Gem 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 4, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

this is a ripper of a course. big shots. smallest hole must be 320. nice big red tones, unreal lines, and difficulty to spare. the replay value is huge and you get to play up and down a really cool park. great job on the cleanout and the design. when this place has baskets its going to be the best course on Vancouver Island.

Cons:

some broom left to take care of, and it can be a cooker on a hot day.

tones, but cmon

Other Thoughts:

you must play this course if you have the time.

Bring a spotter. or lay up off the tee 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 20, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Lots of interesting elevation changes.
- Fun tonal targets on the front 9 (can probably hear a made putt from hundreds of meters away!)

Cons:

- Extremely tough to let any longer drives rip without a spotter, as there are ample opportunities to lose a disc on this course.
- Worn foot paths give clues as to next tee (or basket) locations, but this course more than most I've played, needs "next tee" signage.
- Maintenance issues seem to be a chronic challenge, as 2-3 of the tees will barely be playable in a few years (with tree growth).
- Poor parking accommodations (side of the road, by the gate).

Other Thoughts:

I'd LOVE to give this course a ~3.5 or so for a rating! It certainly has the potential, on an excellent piece of land. But it's awfully rough/rugged for your typical DGer. And if folks are playing it alone? You could spend literally hours searching for discs...while hitting your fairways! I assume the deal with the land owner is for use "as-is." Which severely limits what can be done related to maintenance. But several Saturdays per year with a crew of 7-8+ volunteers could turn this course into a real jewel on the island.

Is there still a course? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 29, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

18 holes in interesting terrain. Helpful map for download.

Cons:

Overgrown, perhaps due to NO TRESPASSING sign at entry. Unplayable without spotter.

Other Thoughts:

It took me close to 1 hour to play only 6 holes, because I permanently searched for tees, pins and discs. If maintained, it would be nice to play here.

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

this course has a lot of different holes from long to short tight wooded lines to open 600' fairways...
this course overlook's branen lake with beautiful views of the sunshine coast mountains.

Cons:

Some of the fairways have heavy broom but will be removed this summer.
Tonal aren't the best but they get the job done. they will be getting upgraded by the fall 2013

Other Thoughts:

come and check this course out for yourself you won"t regret it.
remember to go to the bathroom before you arrive as there is no washrooms.
