Pros:
Located in a family park on the Air Force Base, the course was well layed out, easy to follow, and well kept. The cement tee pads were fairly new and large, which allowed for excellent footing and powerful drives. The signs were easy to follow, giving distance, pin position, and location of obstacles. Par on the course was 29, with two Par 4's which at first I thought was not right till I played. Most of the holes were just over 300 feet with one under 200 and 1 over 400. The Mach 3 baskets were in excellent shape.
Cons:
The biggest thing that stood out was the WIND. Because Minot is competely flat, the wind comes through the course like a tornado. On hole nine for example, the hole is 420 feet and a par 4. Usually I would say that 420 feet is a fairly easy par 3 but the wind was so powerful that when I drove, it grabbed my disk, raised it 50 feet higher that what I released at, and pushed it back about 100 feet. Fortuantely I was still able to par it the first time and birdie it the second time but it was frustrating at times throwing when you know you could par or birdie all these holes if the wind was not such a factor. However, this course really allowed me to work on throwing in tough wind conditions and helped me to work on throwing over stable discs with success.
Other Thoughts:
It was funny to me to think that I was in the middle of nowhere and yet they had a 9 hole course right outside my door. My brother-in-law who I was staying with, as well as a lot of other soldiers, were not familiar with this hidden gem which I thought was kind of funny. I think it is a wonderful thing to have available for these soldiers, and feel privelaged to have the opportunity to play on a course that is basically private to most.
